Here's a few bits I've had this year.
Lots of wood, Inc makeshift raised beds and enough cladding to do a wall in my garage
Nathan table and chairs
Purple sofa

I think this might be in the wrong part of the forum

Is that free advice?

It's not advice, just opinion!
To remain on topic: we got some lovely chairs from a skip.
And our allotment shed (shed of the year 2018) was made entirely from old bits scavenged from skips. -

This is indeed the wrong part of the forum. And I have no idea how it ended up here. I give up. The Internet is too complicated for me.

Was just joking, in keeping with the thread title!

I love a skip.

My street is a prime picking ground for vulturis Londiniumsis. The excited young ones readying their nests with a like-new used Nespresso machine or slightly mismatching set of chairs remind us of ourselves when we were younger. It’s sad when we grow used to some of them and then they disappear (hopefully to a better place and not down a predator’s gullet) but there’s always new ones so there must be a natural rhythm to it.

My best street find was an expensive Brabantia bin which someone had ditched due to the latch breaking... for which you can buy a replacement for about £4. The kicker was that subsequently the mating part of the latch broke, which is not user replaceable so I called up Brabantia and they sent a complete top part replacement free of charge, with the caveat that the part wouldn't be covered under warranty in the future as I didn't have the original purchase receipt!

picked up the classic cards against humanity game up off someone's driveway giveaway on my way home from town last week. it's not as funny as I remember it being.

Favourite freebie has to be this big dumb custom upholstered sofa that's simultaneously incredibly ugly and the comfiest thing in the world. Left it outside the flat while maneuvering furniture around and our elderly cat someone found his way up here.
Bonus points for the fact it fits precisely in the very specific space we hoped it would in the house we've now moved to - we're talking down to the millimetre. Highly satisfying.

Seeing this thread reminds me... Back in student days, my mates and I were flogged a 'furnished' house that was fine when we viewed it. But when we moved in, we found all the chairs and tables had gone and the landlord wouldn't return our calls as he was 'out of the country'. Shortly after, we heard a big hotel in Paddington was refurbing and we all turned up (plus a few other mates) to see if we could take our pickings of the armchairs/dining chairs/tables/whatever they were throwing out. We stood at the end of the line as they were handballing them out and chose what we wanted. Not sure if we were allowed to be there or not. Took them back on the tube up to Turnpike Lane in the evening, sitting in our newly-acquired seats all the way there, with side tables set out and everything. We weren't popular in those two carriages... Line change was fun also.

Brave move bringing in a road couch. Some acquaintances got bed bugs years ago and they have legit ptsd from it still.
I once picked up a pair of VGC 50mm carbon wheels with shot bearings that I replaced in 20 mins. Tried knocking on the door of the house that had them perched against their boundary wall, as people do, but no one answered.

We inadvertently gave an old stinky leather sofa away for free.
Thing is, it had sat on our drive in the rain, for the past week whilst I waited for a chance to take it to the tip...
God speed plundering students, God speed.

I picked these stunners up recently. Set of 4 hand made in elm and beech.
The lovely old ladies getting rid said they were a wedding present for their parents so must be pushing 100 years old.

One of the downsides of living in the sticks is the lack of roadside freebies.
I'd kill for a free Nespresso machine as I'm too cheap to buy them

I got given this massive lamp by some guy who was clearing out a posh flat next to Battersea Park a couple of years ago. I happened to be delivering a bike to the flat next door and he asked if I wanted it. Luckily I had a more or less empty van at the time so nabbed it.

I got a pair of cobweb-covered but otherwise fine Mavic Aksiums in Lee Green and missed a Scott ladies bike with Tiagra by minutes from the same place.

So sick!
Just a place to share the random free shit that comes your way. It’s usually from Facebook groups for me.
I get great joy from saving things from the tip.
