Everyone who likes tubus seems to have bought them before 2015 when they were "a little bit extra" not "600% more expensive, even second hand"

There is also Racktime. Cheaper and less fancy but they belong to Tubus.

I picked up a roadrunner Jammer a while ago, triples as a front bag / rear bag / pannier with roll top.
Quite handy, sometimes wish I got the medium but this holds 11L. More than enough for daily use or small bits and a jacket.Long haul still truckin

I took the real roads bike out today. I got absolutely soaked, but it was worth it.

Don't think I've seen this been posted here before. Saw a Preamble in a shop yesterday and didn't know about this model yet.
It's very simple but it's pretty cheap and has a long headtube for surly standards...
Tempted to get one and build it up as a commuter with 700x35c tyres, mud guards and dropbars

My CC back in ‘race mode’ ready for the season after a summer of commuting with flat bars, a Brooks, mudguards and a rando bag. Love this bike!

what sort of tyre widths are people getting away with on the straggler (with guards)?

What's the standard mudguard choices for 700x35 on a Midnight Special?

50mm front and 43mm rear is pretty much the maximum, be prepared for fairly horrendous toe overlap on the front and minimal mud clearance on the rear.
40mm front and rear is a more sensible option.

thanks, that's helpful. surprisingly hard finding something 650b and approx 40c at the mo.
I've got g-ones 38c and they fit nice, but would like something a wee bit tougher.
any suggestions?

Ooh they are nice

The second one I know won’t be to everyone’s taste but I dig it. The guy throws some silly money at the parts, mega expensive build. Those cranks are megabucks.
He put some crazy custom ti forks on in the end and a more aggressive stem which were both too much for my taste. Ruined it imo.

Has same clearance as the CC? I ran 700x43s with mudguards on that.

Trying to avoid British Gravel Season: Winter Edition. So, 700c wheels, 42mm slicks, and guards that barely clear. Still can't make myself actually fit dynamo lights, the thought of splicing in extra cable to run it to the end of the rack is just too much

Pelago seems to be the perfect option... luckily came across a bargain as Amazon had a used medium steel rack for £60 so I've nabbed it. Tubus for rear also seems great, albeit crazy post-brexit prices.
There's one of the transalp racks on FB marketplace for a fiver, so if it's still avail I might nab that Friday then start the long haul of watching Tubus on Ebay - although they've all been going for ≈ £100 used at the moment :(
