  • way more French take their kids to restaurants from a very young age than they do in the UK.

TBH idk if that's really true anymore.

  • I need to get a person with a van with a tail lift to move a palletised item from San Francisco to LA one day next week.

How do I find and book this at a non-extortionate price?

  • [duplicate post]

  • Thanks, great idea. Trying them now.

  • Im going to remove the anodising on a set of cranks by dipping them in a caustic soda bath. I’ve done this a good few times with great results, but only to cranks that don’t have the axle permanently attached to one side.
On this sram dub crankset, if the caustic soda gets in around where the axle is pressed in, it might eat away at bits between the axle/crank interface and potentially fuck them.

Obviously I can just dip the crank and make sure the bit of concern never comes into contact with caustic soda, but that would mean removing the remaining patch of anodising the manual way. I’m too lazy for that.

Is there some sort of substance I could cover up the axle/crank interface with that would protect it from contact with caustic soda??
    Vaseline?!
If I could somehow protect it, I could daub on the solution with a brush carefully and rinse.
Or is there no such thing and I need to go the long route?

  • Maybe….liquid latex? It’s used as a liquid paint masking material.

Would need a lot of testing.

  • Is the axle on those steel or aluminium?

  • Is it a bad idea to still buy a frameset with qr and discs?

  • Is it a bad idea to still buy a frameset with qr and discs?

It was always a bad idea to use a front disc brake with a QR fork of conventional design, but a rear disc brake with QR dropouts in the frame never had the same problem.

  • We just changed the kid on our laps a lot, still do. Also had a portable matt that rolled up so could change on the floor anywhere. There isn't really a stigma here at all. Who gives a f. Not sure I could have tolerated the breast feeding changing stigma in the UK. Prudes.

  • That’s why Cotic did their right hand brake fork. That’s the only qr disc I’ve ridden and it’s fine.

  • Yeah, either caliper in front of the leg or forward facing dropouts each solves the geometrical issue. All obsolete now that through axle is ubiquitous.

  • Is that because there is a risk the wheel pops out while braking? So I guess this is fine

  • Ah that might be a good shout, thanks. It makes sense given that I wear latex gloves while handling it.

  • The axle is aluminium here.

  • I grew impatient though and just dipped it up to the axle and I’m now left with the upper part to remove.
I’ve ran out of the wee dremel head things that I’ve used previously.
I’ll look into trying some liquid latex.

  • Next question is: does anyone know how 105 r7000 cranks are manufactured? Are they two halves bonded together like 6800 cranks?

Are they bonded together with an epoxy in a similar fashion to the fanciest Hollowgram cranks?

I want to do the same again to black r7000 cranks but wondering whether the caustic soda would react with what ever bonding agent is used and risk a potential failure?

  • Had to yank out my fridge freezer and the little spade plugs have come off. Can any sparks help me out with finding a diagram to show me which ones connect where? I’m drawing blanks. The model is an IKEA ISIGT int fridge/freezer A+ 152/109 l white GB

  • My shoes squeak!
More specifically my right Lake cycling shoe. They are a few hundred km old and the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had but the squeak will torture me on long solo rides.
What can I do to stop it?

  • What can I do to stop it?

For a start, tell us more. Which shoe model, which pedals, which cleats?
