  • Im going to remove the anodising on a set of cranks by dipping them in a caustic soda bath. I’ve done this a good few times with great results, but only to cranks that don’t have the axle permanently attached to one side.
On this sram dub crankset, if the caustic soda gets in around where the axle is pressed in, it might eat away at bits between the axle/crank interface and potentially fuck them.

Obviously I can just dip the crank and make sure the bit of concern never comes into contact with caustic soda, but that would mean removing the remaining patch of anodising the manual way. I’m too lazy for that.

Is there some sort of substance I could cover up the axle/crank interface with that would protect it from contact with caustic soda??
    Vaseline?!
If I could somehow protect it, I could daub on the solution with a brush carefully and rinse.
Or is there no such thing and I need to go the long route?
