  • Haha, I know what you mean. Although if you take the boiler out, drill with a cobalt drill bit, heat the area up with a gas torch and try and use a bolt extractor you should manage to get it out. I completely understand the reluctance to try when the machine is working in that state though!

    You da OPV MVP!
Thanks. Clears it up! Will stick my head in mine and have a look when I get the chance.

  • @neu @Jonny69 and whoever else mentioned it.
    Adjustable OPV confirmed!
And new scales fit nicely, so no springs or slim/wide drip tray required.

  • In case anyone is interested I’ve now got the pavoni “dialed in” to a point that the espresso is excellent, so much so I was quite disappointed with what the best Falmouth had to offer.. the steam wand is still alluding me… am I doing it wrong or is a three hole tip just a nightmare for getting the milk moving?

  • A one hole tip is definitely better. You can get a domed nut and drill a small hole in it for cheap solution. I can send you one that's been done on the wonk if you don't have access to a drill.

  • Yep, 3 hole tip is useless. Like @Goyt said, an M6 acorn nut with a small hole drilled in is much better.

I tried a few off-the-shelf single-hole tips and they all had issues with steam leaking from under the threads so just went with an acorn nut.

  • I sort of feel like multi-hole steam wands were a bit of a fad like concave and convex tampers were. Single hole gives you a concentrated jet of steam in one direction, which will always give you the best penetration into the milk and control over swirl - which will do the best micro foam.

  • Thanks all, I’m sure I can find a m6 domed nut and a drill at home!

  • Happy Hot Shot Friday

  • Realising you can open up the grinder and adjust the internal settings on my Sage Barista Pro has just given a dramatic improvement to my mornings

  • Orly?

I seem to have mine always on the finest of the presets on the dial otherwise it pulls a shot far too quickly. Presume you’ve tightened it up?

  • i'm surprised you guys missed that, was the only change i really made to mine other than set the timer by measuring weight output and adjusting until it was in the right range for my liking.

  • Yeah. I used to have it as fine as it would go but it would still pull an 18g shot in 15 seconds or so. I drink it with milk a lot so never that bothered, and too busy with two kids to do anything about it. But decided it needed to be solved today.

A youtube vid hiding amongst the useless ones went through adjusting the internal grinder, which comes set midway at 6. I moved it down to 2 and then tried two shots this morning at 5 and 6 on the display grind settings and both were great, the one on 6 perhaps edging it. Pulled the shot in 25 seconds. It was a bit more of a challenge to distribute the granules without making a mess but not annoyingly so.

  • That's my next job!

  • @HatBeard @mrJL ta both, that’s definitely improved the shots right away

Should probably look at the timer too

  • Smart Grinder Pro users: it also has this adjustment

  • It does - link please!

  • For work related reasons, I've got to play with a bundle of Sage machines over the last year or so - I've found that out of the box, they just won't grind fine enough so that you can dial in a light/medium roast

From the factory, they're set at 6 - adjusting to 4 (or even 3) has always allowed a grind fine enough so that anything can be dialled in (2:1 ratio in 25-30s)

Plenty of videos on YT - here's the first one I found

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNvOcE4-VEo&t=52s

Small tip - either grind through any beans left in the burrs, or vacuum out and then adjust to the coarsest setting, before trying to release the upper burr

  • Hmm, I didn’t know it did that either. Clearly never read the manual closely enough. I might notch mine round a couple of clicks next time I’ve got it apart.

  • Pleased to know I'm not the only one who doesn't give my burrs a proper thorough clean on the regular 😀

  • Where's good to get a coffee somewhere on the overground between sort of Canada Water and Highbury and Islington? Maybe between Shoreditch and Dalston but quite flexible. I need to help a mate sort something out so laptop friendly and ideally not crazy busy.

  • Allpress roastery/cafe, 55 Dalston Lane might work?
    (Not sure about laptop friendly)

  • Perfect, thank you!

  • Lewes? Needs to be in town so not Pharmacie.
