Ooh, I might be keen to try and come along to one of these (despite how obviously impractical it is).

Route for October is below. It's a little hilly but nothing bad in there. If anyone is unsure of the climbing then you could easily skip out Ide Hill and then chill at Dunton Green (might even be able to grab a v quick coffee at Bojangles Coffee while you wait) and then we'll pick you again on our way to Old Pohill and back. By the time the ride comes around I'll have found a good spot for late coffee / early beer in Bromely South.

May I suggest a change to this course?
When you come down Clarks Lane after turning onto it from Beddlestead, you’ve plotted a right turn to drop down to the Pilgrims Way. This is on a short sharp descent, and the right turn is partially blind, so a bit dangerous. Easier to just stay on the downhill on Clarks, then turn left onto Pilgrims Way a few hundred yards later. That left turn is fairly sharp btw but has an inviting look about it. Be warned!

Ah that's what I thought I was doing! Yeah because then we'd just have to cross over Clark again anyway. Updated

it is good on the way back for the fast folk to stop and gather content, a famous turn for that, I always get a pic taken by @pastry_bot there.

Approx ride time/pace?
-
• #21
Depends on the riders I guess, but hopefully not much less than 14mph but definitely no higher than 16mph.

@Chopsicle just a heads up in case you fancy another autumn fixie roll or two

Any details for the 4th Nov ride? Can’t make the oct 28 one :(
-
• #24
Deets are just the same, early 8 or 9am roll-out from Elmers End, 40 miles or so (Nov will be a little longer), back into Bromley South for coffee / beer!

Managed to free up the day so should be rolling out from Elmers end with you at 8am.
Thanks for organising these rides @youramericanlover its much appreciated.
Like last year I thought I’d run a few shorter FG/SS rides before January so those who are keen for HDIJ but unsure about group riding fixed in the lanes, the distance, or anything else really can enjoy some autumn lanes and get any niggles out with some lower stakes riding (shorter and warmer basically). That way those interested can get out for a ride, and if they dig it, turn up to the Hard Day with a bit more confidence. It's also a good excuse to ride with some fixie lords you've not seen in months.
Start at Elmer’s End in SE London around 9am, do between a 35 - 45 mile loop with a few hills and then make our way back. The idea is to chat, see some friendly faces and test out your road fixed (and the legs). These will be no-heroics, get-around-safely-and-have-fun rides. There will be other experienced riders out with me on the day to help make sure things go smoothly.
You can expect:
• Steady but easy-rolling miles
• some hills
• my crap jokes
• between 1 and 3 skids
Dates are:
