He obviously doesn't think so:
https://www.eurosport.com/cycling/vuelta-a-espana/2023/remco-evenepoel-raises-safety-frustrations-after-crash-after-vuelta-a-espana-stage-3-win-it-s-breaki_sto9767208/story.shtmlI think it's a bit six of one and half a dozen of the other - there clearly wasn't enough space for a safe run out, but he could also have braked harder given there were a load of people stood where he was meant to be going.

I’m taking my eldest tomorrow to the finish who is prone to being a bit absent minded so there’s a fair chance he could take Remco out
-

Indeed. The barriers were about 1.5 meter behind the woman he crashed into from what I saw. Should she have stepped aside, well...
-
• #47455
Remco absolutely ate shit in that crash, I'd imagine once the andrenaline wore off he was in a world of hurt.

Ellingworth on the Today Programme this morning being goaded into saying cycling's a really dangerous sport, with no commentary on the actual race. I hadn't realised Geriant had crashed, though not exactly surprised.

Tour de avenir femmes is on currently. First edition. Website is terrible and little press. I only know as it starts in my parents town, so they're following it.

Looks like a really good five day course and has some super strong riders in it …. shame no live coverage.

What happened to Sepúlveda on the final descent?
GCN+ highlights showed him take thr KOM points, then cut to him 1:34 down on the front two without explanation.

Also - and this is not another criticism of Carlton Kirby because I think that's been done to death - but is he OK?
From the highlights, he sounds a bit subdued. Less of the breathless, nonsense wordplay and he seems to be mixing up his words a bit.

Sounded like the mute button to me.
-
• #47462
Yes Carlton is ok. I had the stage going on in the background. Plenty of the usual rubbish still being uttered
-
• #47463
Sepulveda had a mechanical.
-
• #47464
R.EV™ wanted space for an unsafe runout, that’s the thing.
-
• #47465
Yes, still spouting nonsense. When Piccolo dropped he said "oh Piccolo, I'm afraid that's all he's going to be playing tonight"

My comment two years ago
"Kirby can explain what is happening in front of him but has no idea why any of it is happening.
His downright melancholy highlight package voiceovers are just weird too, like it's an absolute chore and he’s got a gun to his head or something."

The website has Shirin Van Rooij 3rd and 4th...

like it's an absolute chore and he’s got a gun to his head or something.
Sounds like the highlights package is extra and he needs to do it as part of his contract but without actually being paid for it (i.e. he failed to read the small print before signing and now has to see it out begrudgingly.)

Christ - what a fucking awful finish. This Vuelta is nuts.

The Vuelta could have been even more exciting:

Spot on.
But the highlights I'm watching are the extended ones where it's just really badly chopped footage with no narration or explanation, and so it uses his commentary from the live broadcast.
I did hear the part that @KatBalou'sPhone mentioned last night. It was poor even for him.

That finish, for the first nailed on sprint stage, was absolutely crazy. Has anyone in the Vuelta organisation actually seen a bike race before?
-
• #47473
when shall i come to collect the free colnago?
-
• #47474
More Kirby bollocks "Ganna, what's his role? Maybe he'll get a free roll? Maybe he's a sausage roll?"

I'm sure I saw andyp with 400 litres of a mystery liquid recently. Now it all makes sense.
Chez Nouz isn’t fantastic but in Haverstock Hill.
