  • When you say inside, are you resting your head on the outer of the sleeping bag with the pillow tucked inside, or with the bag drawn over your head?

  • Like the bottom bag in this photo. Stops it falling off the top of the pad.

  • Anyone tried a Thermarest or similar cot/bed? 1.2 kg for the ultralight one which breaks, or 1.6kg for the stronger version. Possibly much comfier than an inflatable mat? https://gearjunkie.com/camping/therm-a-rest-luxurylite-cot-review https://www.thermarest.com/ie/products/cots

    • Thermarest-Cot-Feet-700x476.jpg
  • No insulation (unless you use the additional topper), so unlikely to give you a comfortable night's sleep unless you're somewhere tropical.

  • What's the forum approved liner of choice at the moment? Spending a week in Andalusia in early September and planning to leave the sleeping bag behind. Have a thermarest pad so hoping that + liner keeps me warm enough overnight

  • Idk if you have any doubts (ie 'hoping') id just take a cheap quilt or something. Liners don't do much at all.
That said, I saw some alpha fabric bags from omm, might be some blankets available from some other company?

  • I know this is the wrong place, however I know that the people in the know will be subscribed.

I want a chest bag like the photo but made from decent materials, ideally waterproof. Does anyone know a maker? Before I get one custom made.

  • "cheat bag"

I think you need to keep blood bags cool, mate. So you might want to rethink the design ;)

  • Not quite, but thanks! I need horizontal zip and third strap for compression I'm also adverse to patagucci after their Jared Leto sidetracked bullshit.

  • I've had an Ali express one for a decade. Its insanely comfortable to me.

I used it for the WHW but now its family camping these days with a fleece blanket as a bedsheet as it's too cold otherwise.

I've just bought a Nemo tensor insulated regular wide pad from trekitt. Will see how that compares for comfort and warmth

  • I have a Nemo tensor insulated wide, as a side sleeper I like it a lot. I sleep really well on it.

  • not something I'm familiar with I'm afraid!

  • Excellent. Now I need to go camping. Maybe take child 1 as a treat for going back to school without a fuss

  • Don't think it's exactly what you want, but it reminds me of apidura's mussette: https://www.apidura.com/shop/packable-musette/

I like mine a lot, use it for everyday stuff too. Stitches on one of the straps started to give, but my mum fixed that :)

  • Thanks I actually have a few things like this that rusjan made for me from dyneema. But they're not quote right for the job spec. As you, I use them a lot for every day.

  • No, like the photo. But thanks!
I actually have something near identical to this, by rusjan, that attaches to one of the backpacks I have. It's quite nice, if a bit annoying to take the backpack of.

  • I’ve definitely seen some paraglider pilots with similar gear strapped onto them, but wouldn’t have a specific brand or name to recommend as I haven’t looked into that myself. Not sure they’d be waterproof as people usually don’t fly when it’s rainy, but you never known. Maybe look at Neo or other makers?

  • The term you’re looking for is “Conterra Harness”. As @cgg correctly points out they were originally for paragliders but are now now more popular with movie crews due to the radio pouch.

A few different companies make similar designs but none in “high end” materials. It wouldn’t surprise me if Alpine Luddites or similar American custom outfitters had made some for Search And Rescue operations however.

  • Thanks for the name and thanks @cgg. That's actually my use case, or part of it.

  • Can’t wait for the dyneema backpack that converts into a para-wing!

  • There's some crazy stuff on the market already from ozone or dudek. But I'm already well off topic.

  • Are sleeping pad repair patches all much of a muchness or is it like pre sticky inner tube patches where the park tools ones seem significantly better than the Halfords tier ones?

  • Atom Packs might be able to do a custom version of their Roo waistbag for you. Curious to know a bit more about how you intend to use it!
