I think it's a bit six of one and half a dozen of the other - there clearly wasn't enough space for a safe run out, but he could also have braked harder given there were a load of people stood where he was meant to be going.
Indeed. The barriers were about 1.5 meter behind the woman he crashed into from what I saw. Should she have stepped aside, well...
