Mine was a mysterious box on the outside of The Olde Wine Shades bar. Many theories about what it was; an oven, food hatch for the poor? Most likely theory is that it was a document / deed safe that was never supposed to be on the exterior wall as this was once the inside wall of a solicitor's office in the 1840's. Unfortunately it was bombed in the war and the building was finally demolished in 2002 revealing this strange feature.
Interestingly there used to be smugglers tunnels apparently under this site from the bar next door to the Thames. These were also destroyed by the bomb damage.
