  • Not overly fussed on most of the newer GS but this one is easily sitting near the top, along with the 36mm one they brought out a while back, can't remember the reference. They did a brown dial too.
Off to Japan in October, tempted to try one on, think there's much of a discount to be had being based there?

  • Happy Friday

  • Buying in Japan might be worthwhile just because of the exchange rate. I don't know if there are discounts going at ADs there.

Mine is the SBGW267 which is a European exclusive model, so you probably won't find it in Japan. But there are a number of other dial variants of the same model.

The 36mm (or 36.5mm apparently…) one you're talking about is probably the SBGW291 / SBGW293. It's not quite a 44GS case but it's basically that, and they're really nice. Same movement as in my 267.

Seem to be some good tips here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandSeikos/comments/zpoft8/buying_grand_seiko_in_japan/

Would echo checking Plus9Time to see what JDM special editions there might be available.

    Current JDM collection of hand-wound 9S watches… https://www.grand-seiko.com/jp-ja/collections/all?page=1&search_text=sbgw

I didn't know there were white and yellow gold cased versions (SBGW237/238)!

  • G-Shock on Friday (a repost as that was the only time I've taken this one out of the box...)

  • Jesus! A favourite of mine for sure! 79090?

  • That's the one! The render they've done on your model is tragic, maybe send them some images! Forgot that it was the European exclusive. That link looks great, will have a read through later tonight. The cream dial version of yours also looks good. Appreciate the help.

  • No new (old) G Shocks, but a quick pic of my latest build. A Seiko NH36 movement hiding under a dateless dial, which always seems to be slightly out of focus

  • On a different note, new job for me and for it a new watch. Not adjusted the bracelet or worn out yet as we are due to move very shortly. I promised the wife that I would sell something else before I wore this out and about.

  • Cheers yes a 79090 from ‘91 bit of an impulse buy but paid off as it’s in great shape and came with all the goodies down to the hang tag and anchor. Grats also on the new watch/job 🎉

  • I really enjoyed the sunburst dials, that a big improved over the previous generation

  • Nice, grats. Have they got the T-fit clasps now?

And yeah, the plain eggshell dial SBGW231 (which was the only version of that watch for years) is also very nice. It kind of hides the domed dial but in general I think the lighter dial colours work best on that watch.

  • Mmmmmf yeah

  • Happy Friday!

  • Thanks. Yeah T-fits is on board. Will fully see what it's like after I get it resized etc.

  • Very nice, seems like a great impulse buy to me.

  • Cheers, your snowflake is looking good as always too. I came across one at a watch fair yonks ago and still kick myself for not going with my gut, I pretend to myself it was a bitsa and best left on the dealers table.

  • Yeah quite a few upgrades and refinements. Like that they've scaled down the size on the hour hand for better marker alignment. Sunburst dial, better power reserve, no cap between the bezel and crown. The crown may even be a tad too small. Softer case shape, not that I minded the old one, it's a bit more curved though. Black Oyster Perpetual is still the goal but no news there.

  • @hang_on_voltaire damned that’s a good one, I’ve been turning around a blue 79090 for quite a while now, passed on one a few weeks ago (but was very close)
It’s still on the wishlist !

Yours looks great, those blue sub are just too good..

No date > Date lollipop are probably my favorite (94010 & 76100)

    Still on the hunt..

@Regal no wrong choice between the two, but both is too redundant, I can’t get that..

Tried the 093 on a perlon strap, surprisingly comfortable on the wrist, serious bracelet option.. (I didn’t really like caoutchouc strap)

A premium single pass black nato would probably do the job too..

  • Yes love the old Tudor subs, those are lovely refs, I’m partial to having a date so luckily I don’t mind the cyclops. 🤞 you find a good one at some point to add to the collection!
