the azera collabs (grindsmith & perky blenders) are pretty ok for instant. wouldn't pay the usual £6 for 75g but i pick up a few tins when they're on offer for £3 as my mum drinks about 12 cups a day when she visits.

What are people saying for espresso scales.
My cheapo set have finally died (bottomless portafilter spraying all over them has dealt the death blow).Something under £50

Are you using a wdt it really helps get less channelling or spraying, after that you might be tamping too hard.
-
• #24607
Ta, will give them a whirl. Your mum sounds fun!

I bought these ones without much research, but saw the brand on a few YouTube videos….
They’re fine, possibly a bit taller than is ideal, and the buttons are a bit annoying with the sound turned off as they lack feedback to know when they’re pushed… if that makes any sense…
Really enjoying the gaggia and got to a reasonably consistent and tasty espresso, got an wdt thing which is much more convenient than a sewing needle, and a decent tamper arriving today, only complaints are that it doesn’t come with a milk pitcher and how poor the tamper is.

It's so good isn't it

she wrinkles her nose up at the thought of a proper coffee as she prefers instant but she'll smash a jar of instant coffee in a couple of days.
I got her a breville one-cup hot water dispenser so she doesn't have to boil and lift the kettle all the time and she wears them out in about 6 months she's on her 6th or 7th one now

It's ridiculously good!!

Yeah very thorough WDT. Tbh, slightly older beans, and not dialled in enough (quick espresso at 530am means I’m not too fussy), and machine might be to blame. It’s better when I fuss over it more, but first thing in the morning there isn’t time!
I have been tamping less after you suggested it tho. Could do with a slightly finer grind maybe.

Yeah, I reckoned Timemore looked best around that cash. Will have a more thorough look over the weekend.

• #24614
Had to look that up. That's Christmas sorted.

Yagua Barista used to be a forum favourite. Yellow Bourbon might still stock them.

this is the one she has, it works well until it stops working but that's almost definitely down to over use.
they will probably be discounted in Black friday sale too.

That’s what I’ve killed, lol.

Went for these in the end. Small size and solid top so no water ingress around buttons.

Tracking number for Timemore had finally popped up ( in spam though).
May even turn up before Christmas at this rate!
-

I just got the scales which I added to the pledge, but no tracking for the grinder yet :(
I was under the impression from their last email that they sent the shipment by boat early August and tracking would be sent out later. If 30 days wasn't wishful thinking then arrival with September should be on the cards?
-
• #24621
The tracking came through to junk/Spam.
Are you in the first batch?
-
• #24622
Yeah in the first batch too. The only tracking I've got so far (in spam too) is from 18th August for the scales which were sent separately.
Did your tracking include a spreadsheet as they said it would?
-
• #24623
weirdly tempted by this big boy. could potentially bin the cafetiere
-
• #24624
I'm first batch too but deleted my spam without catching it. Are they any more specific than 'before christmas'?!
edit: my email with tracking just came through. It is the most comically spam-looking email I have seen for a while. Leaving China on the 28th apparently...

I'm first batch but never got a tracking no so followed up with an email. They responded with this
Due to a limited stock, the first batch only included 779 units of 078s, and it was not enough for orders in Ireland. We are not able to organize the orders completely based on backer number, but it will have to be determined by the destination country as well.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and the rest of the orders in the first group will be shipped in subsequent batches once there are more grinders ready.
