I have a Fitbit Charge 5 as I also wanted something small. It does time, distance, pace and HR.
I went from running with Underarmour connected shoes, which might be an option for you if you don't want anything on your wrist? The distance and pace recorded by the shoes and the Charge 5 are pretty much identical every run.
I don't like the way the Fitbit stores historic run data and find it difficult to compare runs. I was using Mapmyrun before that and found it much better when I wanted to look back.
I considered adding a Polar Verity Sense to record HR with the UA connected shoes, but figured it would be a little more faff to get the data into Mapmyrun, so tried the Charge 5.
The HR data from the Charge 5 does seem a little off when I'm running, but I really have nothing to compare it to - it always says I'm in peak range and I've never had a run when it says I've been in cardio range. It records my resting HR as 59, which I think is accurate. Happy to share a run's HR data if it helps.
