  • Totally worthwhile.

It made such a difference and we also put a water filter in-line at the same time.

  • Generally tamping harder is not a great solution. It seems it can lead to channelling etc.

So I’d either grind fewer beans on the finer setting or more beans on the coarser setting.

WDT makes a huge difference. @Sainsburys_Ed get a naked portafilter and watch your coffee spray everywhere, then use a WDT and the channelling and spraying will almost completely stop.

  • I know what you mean, but I'd argue it's a variable worth having a go with. Although your reply has me tempted to grind finer and tamp softer for the sake of experimentation.

  • You definitely made the right choice with the machine!

  • I've had two Delonghi's (both Icona-looking models second-hand) and used a friend's Dedica a couple times.

In all honesty, I was fairly happy at the time but, same as @Gewürzt, I'd go for a second-hand Gaggia Classic instead without question these days. The Delonghi's feel so limited (and cheap) in comparison and trying to get good espresso out of my friend's Dedica last year was an exercise in frustration. It's not easy to get up to a high temp, they run high pressure which exacerbates any puck prep issues and trying to 'hack' the Delonghi portafilters to get them out of pressurized mode is frustrating and messy.

  • Anyone tempted by an Aeropress XL?

  • I wasn't until I saw Hoffmans video. Looks like it works and preforms exactly the same as the original. I'm the only one in the house who drinks filter though so I've no need for it.

  • Wondering if it would replace a big cafetière. Though £70 seems pretty steep

  • The carafe is a nice touch. £80 is madness though.

  • I honestly don't understand the point in a massive aeropess the beauty of it is it's compactness. 20 quid cafetiere makes way more sense if you need to do a big brew.

  • I need to run it to make sure it still works OK from storage but if so would consider selling on my gaggia classic as I'm filter only at home these days. Would need collection from mcr, might anyone here be interested?

  • Definitely curious. Easy enough to dodge over from Leeds. Ballpark £?

  • Not sure I’d want to use the inverted method on that big boy.

  • Fiddy and you deliver it to Essex.

  • Cool. Hadn't thought price. They massively vary on ebay from spares/repairs selling at £100 to upgraded at £200 upwards. This has rancillo wand.

    Would £120 be reasonable?

  • Gah, if I'd seen this before ^ I'd be setting off now. Unlucky.

  • Also curious but happy to be further down the pecking order. Also couldn't collect until Early September.

If anyone is considering offloading a similar machine, I'd be interested.

  • £70 for a big Aeropress is JOXE

£120 for a used Gaggia Classic is a megabarg. Definitely get that bought.

  • £120 sounds reasonable to me. Just need to figure out when I can next get to Manc. Will pm.

  • All this talk of classics means I’ve got to get mine up and running again, I parked it in the Wellness Suite (loft de pain) intending to have pre exercise shots, but just use the kitchen machine, (don’t use the exercise stuff)

  • Why would you even try and exercise in the bread loft?

  • It’s like a fucking oven up there!

  • Dare I ask....what's the forum approved instant? All the speciality ones seem to come from Germany or USA which make them prohibitively expensive.

  • I think this has been mentioned before but fuck this is the best coffee I've tasted as v60 in ages.
