  • Looks good to me too.

  • Sounds strange but when I compare the picture with the photo, my brain says yeah thatโ€™s look about right.

Once Iโ€™ve taken a picture of the picture on my phone, I can see where itโ€™s wrong.

  • I guess it depends what you want it to be.
    Why is it "wrong"?
I found trying to recreate a photo or a close copy of an image far too frustrating as I'm not that accurate or patient.
I found it much more liberating to accept mistakes/inaccuracies/artistic licence are part of what the makes the final piece special.
But others seem to take great satisfaction from making it photo-realistic or incredibly intricate.
If it's important getting it very close to that image you could make a print from a printer, paint a thin layer of oil on the back, and then "draw" it onto the canvas itself. Obviously it will only be as big as the printed paper.
    It's not cheating :-)

  • Looks good to me too. And after all, we don't know how great artists' models looked like in real life, don't we? ๐Ÿ˜

  • Having a go with gouache at the Moomin Museum in Tampere.

  • What I really want to do is a heavy textured oil painting with a pallet knife. But I want to have a go with a brush first.

I did a painting years ago with acrylics but using cotton buds, just dots. Of a logo of my friends shop.

  • Finished this one today. Difficult to take a photo without the light reflection in it.

  • I really do like your style of painting

  • Thanks @eskay, that's really a nice compliment.

  • How do you make the blend so softly

  • Good question... I suppose by mixing, trying, ruining what was actually good by trying to make it better,... starting again and than suddenly coming to a result that works. I guess. For this face it took me two hours to come to a colour combination I like. Skin colour with a touch of blue and purple for the shadows.

  • Completely messed up a new painting I started, cooled my anger on it and I actually like the result. ๐Ÿ˜…

  • I like that a lot..

  • Great work as usual!

  • Thatโ€™s very cool

  • Mmm, nice stuff from both Wim and Technics. ๐Ÿ‘

  • Thanks guys.

@Technics100 I think we have a completely different style (in your work detail is what jumps in my eye while I'm more into "rough bounderies") but that doesn't mean I don't like your work. It's great and I wish I had a bit more that gift of eye for the details. It's great to see different styles here as they're all very inspiring.

  • Thanks, @Light_EDDed. I've been thinking about your blending question and I believe it's because I do a lot of "wet in wet" things: I make the colours I need on my palette and blend them on the canvas while they're still wet. Hope that's an answer?

    Wim

  • Yeah, I do toy with the idea of other painting formats, but have never tried.. to me I just do a doodle and roughly fill in with colour..
