Rooflights: need to source 4x fixed rooflights for our ground floor extension, and the choice of suppliers is bewildering, all with wildly different prices.

Anyone got direct experience with buying these, preferably from an East London supplier?

having just had a mare trying to silicone the perspex bathroom window reveal (see DIY thread) which the grey silicone stained the perspex and made for a messy clean up i think the rest of the bathroom needs a 'mastic man' as there are three different coloured silicones and we want the tightest/thinnest beads possible and there are area where 2 colours meet so not exactly an easy job.

any recommendations welcome, SE london.

Some paint starting to go on here. It's a F&B colour called Dimity but mixed by Dulux.

Some cabinets starting to get built today. Small ammount of surgery required to the top of the tall cupboard doors as it seems the lowering of the ceiling means that they are out by 15mm.
Lights and some sockets fitted. Grouting done. Hopefully, most of it will be done by Tuesday.

What are today's trade prices for furniture-grade birch ply these days, and where's the best place to buy?

Looking to make 18mm ply fronts for an Ikea kitchen...

What are 'london prices' for a painter/decorator (is that really a thing or is split into two jobs?) for a single room and are economies of scale at play so that multiple rooms become cheaper.

Thinking: preparing walls and woodwork, prime, paint, supply materials (F&B or matched colour as my understanding is painters hate it? Though would prefer F&B specifically for 'dead flat' on walls, skirting, door, not ceiling apparently?) and tools. Room is 4m x 6m with a bay window. No ceiling. We're not london but wondering what higher end would be so we can be pleasantly surprised down in devon. Because I just can't bring myself to paint another fucking inch.

Don't know how representative this is but I am billing myself out at £55-75 ph for decorating.

I prefer tikkurila optiva over F&B for low sheen finishes. Don't know who can can colour match to F&B in the West Country

There’s plenty of paint available online, we used paintshed as well as Little Greene direct and Brewers/LDM etc in store.
would avoid F&B if possible, LG/Albany/Tikkurila/Benjamin Moore/Johnstones make better products IMHO.

Johnstones will colour match f&b and little Greene fyi.

It's the finish more than the colour that we're after. So we wouldn't lose sleep about a perfect match as much as the amount of sheen.

I'm looking for the same right now, so if anyone has any recommendations... Or alternatives to birch ply? And finally any recommendations for a track saw? Have a Makita circular saw but it's a smaller one which doesn't take the standard track adapter - should I DIY a perspex track adapter or just buy a suitable track saw? Got quite a few bits - pipe boxes, shelves, etc - to so

I bought a few sheets of Wisa Spruce ply from Aloway recently. It’s obviously not furniture grade birch ply but I really like it. Go take a look before you order but at £58+vat a sheet it’s great I think. It’s full of small knots but I quite like that and it’s a lovely pale colpur

Dewalt make a track compatible circular saw. So the footplate matches with their track but doesn't have the full abilities of a plunge saw.

Since I bought it, the very expensive cordless plunge saw barely gets used.

Unless you definitely need the plunge cut ability, I would recommend the track compatible circular saw

I faffed around with adapters and it's just not worth it, so in went with the dewalt.

It's pretty decent, although I wouldn't want to do any cabinetry with it - it's not amenable to fine tuning, and a struggle to keep completely perpendicular & square.

Also wired, not battery, because moar watts.

We paid our decorator £300 for a room of a similar size but no bay window and we supplied the paint. He was good and efficient. We had another decorator before (he was booked up this time) who would have charged £500 but he was excellent mostly in the prep work, so as to create a faultless finish

Thanks - this is a good ref. I was mentally preparing for around the £1k mark inc paint (was looking at 3 x 5l tins of dead flat, so 350 quid or so).

Cabinet carcassas going in today. It's kind of like purchasing a bike frame and all components seperatly and then standing back and watching it all come together at the bike shop not know if it's going to look shit or not.
Got used to all the spare space.

That seems like a lot of paint @cyoa - decent prep of the walls shouldn't need that much. That said I haven't used the dead flat stuff

It's me overestimating with the intent I'm relieved at the other side and only end up getting 2 tins.
