• Totally, they had two races worth of swimmers out on the swim course with presumably the same number of safety boats. Dangerous for participants and unfair on volunteers to be in that situation.

    The full race was always scheduled to start at 7am but a communication was sent via email last night to say the postponed 70.3 would start at 6:30am. I saw on Instagram that this eventually set off closer to 7.30am, with most people shivering and some in emergency blankets at that stage. At this stage they’d moved the swim course further into the bay and halved the full distance course.

    When they saw the 70.3 swimmers were struggling to even get to the 1st buoy they shortened the full distance swim even more.
