WTB - Single speed/fixie

Posted on
  • Hi... I am looking for a solid single-speed/fixie for commuting and just getting to and from town.
Something of reasonable weight... I definitely don't want something heavy.

My last bike was frame size 54cm.

I want to be able to brake and pedal like on a normal bike... If the bike has both options that I can switch between then fine, but it must have the freewheel/normal pedalling option.

I've ridden a fixie in the past and a road bike. I find myself more drawn to fixies due to maintenance.

Looking to spend between £200-£300 or less...

Below are some examples but I've been told the quella and fixie inc are not great for the price.

If anyone knows of anything or is selling please let me know. I am located in the South East (Berkshire). The furthest I would really go is London or 40 mile radius of Berkshire.

  • I have a Peugeot SS in Oxfordshire that I've recently built up.

Hey thanks. How much are you selling this for, what weight is it, does it have a freewheel option and what size is the frame?

  • Hi there,

It has a flip-flop hub and both sides have a freewheel at the moment. (i may have a fixed sprocket I can provide too)

Not sure on weight, but it is Reynolds 501SL which is surprisingly light. Much lighter than standard 501

I didn't realise this (I thought it was 54 or 55), however it measures 56cm from centre of BB to top of seat tube and 54cm top tube centre-to-centre. I am 5'9 for reference.

Wheels are fairly new Mavic Open Sport with Ambrosio sealed hubs

Campag crank & BB, Shimano 105 brakes, Cinelli bars & stem, Stronglight headset

New chain, cables, pads, tyres, tubes & tape around 50 miles ago (last month!)

    Looking for £175

  • Sounds great however for me it is a bit too big so I cannot accept.

Thank you anyway. It's good to get a sense of how much these things should really cost too.

  • Lots of nice ss/fixed gear bikes come up for around £300 on here, if you’re willing to be patient for the right one to come along!

  • Just wait about until a Dolan pops up.

  • Hi everyone... Thanks for the offers and replies. I ended dup going with a decathlon 500 elops.

Really appreciate the responses here however and I hope you guys sell as soon as possible!

    Thanks again.
