  • Just seen this, thanks - looks great. Not sure it'll be to their tastes but certainly to mine so I can coax/prove it's not poison.

Still after a couple more if anyone else sees.

  • Hen & Chicken is very close by and is a really decent desi pub with excellent service. Good menu so you should be able to get something for the 6 year old. Went there the day after Opheem and enjoyed it equally.

I'd also recommend DDC for the different options in one place.

There's also this fast food chain in Brum called Big John's that's not really high class but it's a big variety of absolutely acceptable food at an excellent price.

That is the extent of my Birmingham knowledge other than eating at terrible interior taxi driver friendly establishments.

  • This is great, thank you!

  • Hello - looking for recommendations for my wife's birthday, group of ~14, not too expensive (£60-80 per head, rather than up to or beyond £100), ideally central (in a broad understanding of the term but ideally not West), any cuisine considered but a bit 'special' would be nice. Places we love: brat, babur, polpetto, Thai food, Ethiopian, Chinese etc ..

    Cheers
    Pete

  • I really like https://norfolkarms.co.uk/daily_menu-2 and they have a private room upstairs which could work. It's not "fancy" but it is very good 'not your standard but familiar all the same' tapas.

  • Circolo Popolare hits your price point, good food, great fun and has that ‘special’ feel to it.

  • Gah, this would have been perfect, thanks for the suggestion, but no availability on the day we need (well, actually that very frustrating availability of 530 or 9, neither of which actually works!) - will keep looking...

  • This looks like a lovely option too, will email. Cheers!

  • Any suggestions for somewhere interesting, tasting menu kind of place but not too outrageously priced for a Saturday night somewhere central?

Looking for something like Anglo (but not Anglo as we went there last time). Cheers

  • Cheers, that reminds me that I had been meaning to go there for a long time (since half of it was bubble dogs).

Looks pretty expensive now though, £200 for the tasting menu and not far off that for the wine pairing.

  • Pidgin? Helps if you like natural wines

  • That does look good but a bit far out for what I'm looking for. On the shortlist for some other time though.

  • Also, Cornerstone is amazing but also not central

  • Yea - punchy!

Fallow is amazing but not tasting menu.

  • Not a tasting menus but Mountain
St Bart’s does a tasting menu

  • I was actually a bit surprised when I read the glowing Mountain review in G today - I went a few weeks ago and thought it was a bit meh / pricey for what it is.

  • Any recommendations for a pub lunch in Lewisham (or accessible for Lewisham given my Dad ain't especially mobile) that'll seat a group 12 that does good options for vegetarians and pescatarians?

  • i would say Everest but not a pub :(

  • I'd love to go with your suggestion @amey but parents are dead set on a Sunday roast (which in my opinion is overrated)...but keen to keep them happy

  • blacklock canary wharf wayy too much effort? its step free DLR and the restaurant is like 100 meters away from the canary wharf stop

  • Lewisham centre is a hellscape, but there are a few good options just outside. The Talbot on Lewisham Way is good, the Guildford Arms on South Greenwich Street is excellent. Both top gastropubs.

  • I was taken as a client, which helped things...

  • Any recommendations for central Paris and kid friendly?

There in 2 days and will be doing tourist stuff, itinerary uncertain but prob predictable... Anyone know somewhere we can aim for that will be nice for kids (young) and adults?
