On one hand I wanted to suggest it's a Victorinox vs Wenger thing... but every Victorinox I've handled has had a relatively fair build.
Previously the edges have felt okay and the mechanics worked fine. I know that over years edges will soften, so my old Wenger that gets forever grazed in the pocket and bag is an unfair comparison.
Swiss Champ felt a lot better out the box and that was a couple of years ago, likely old stock when I got it. The Walsh isn't comparable. Wherever the seldom used or seen classic (my 30th birthday present one) I don't remember having any rough edges.
Something about that Climber felt all wrong. The metal had badly finished edges, and the scales too. It felt cheap and nasty. This happened as well with a large-size Picnic, where I painstakingly sanded all the edges to make it feel less distracting in the hand.

Can't say I've particularly noticed the quality but it isn't something I use everyday.
