  • Get her the nice one you cheapskate.

  • Paper white is WAY betterer.

  • Nothing better than the paper white.

  • 100% paperwhite. The cheaper one IIRC seems like the light is coming from one direction and the light isn't consistent on the page. Paperwhite is absolutely brilliant.

  • get the paperwhite

the slight cost difference (and it is esp if you look at the life of the thing) is well worth the money.

Edit: also, just get it for above

  • I’ve got a Paperwhite 10 for sale in the classifieds if that helps

  • Are there any colour e-readers worth buying?

I'm all about single use electronics, and I want a kitchen book. Bigger than a paperwhite, colour, but not a tablet (because kitchen). Does such a thing even exist?

  • The surface of the case for my 5th Generation Paperwhite is disintegrating and needs replacing. I'm struggling to find it or a replacement I like. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Imo the amazon ones are a bit heavy and don't have great hand feel. Slip ones don't protect and are too small in the hand. What I like about my one is that it's light, comfortable and strikes the right balance of size.

  • I've never bothered with a case. They are pretty tough and I've generally just thrown them in my bag and they are fine.

  • I don't really like not having a case as it feels a bit too thin for me.

    This is my current one.

As it's all fabric it's nice and light and the slightly larger surround helps protect it from knocks. And the magnetic flap works well.

  • Mine is rebooting every few minutes. Suggests the memory is full to me, does that sound right to anyone else who’s experienced this?

  • I've got no idea, but if it is fucked, I have just upgraded so have a previous gen paperwhite knocking around for cheaps...

  • Thanks Matt. May take you up on that.

  • cool. pm me if you need it

  • Plug it into a computer and it should show up as a mass storage device and you can remove stuff that way

  • Anyone got a Boox Palma?

They look rather lovely and I'd be interested in hearing some first hand opinions.

  • It’s been fine since, seems to be one particular book that was causing the issue.

  • Would anyone have a recommendation to fix a unresponsive Kindle Paperwhite 7th edition?

It is stuck on this screen with the back light on. I have tried holding the button down for 40s so far and plugging it into the computer, neither have worked.

  • Perhaps leave it to drain the battery and see if it sorts itself out with a reboot after charging it again?

  • There is a "get a callback" option on the Amazon CS website.

They call you, so no hold time.

    Explain issue.

They will either sort it or send you a new one. Unless this is already replacement?

  • Two questions;
1.) does anyone have a workflow for Anna's archive to kindle?
2.) does anyone use substack with a kindle?

  • workflow

    As in a step-by-step guide?

    Not really but sort of....

    1. I followed the instructions on the site
    2. Downloaded to my phone and save to my Google drive
    3. Downloaded from Drive to my laptop and added them to Calibre(sp?) library
    4. In Calibre on my laptop fuck around for ages to work out how to set up a spammy GMX(?) email address and resorted to using my personal Hotmail one.
    5. Used calibre to email the books to my kindle until MS blocked me as spam
    6. Gave up as I had enough books to keep me going for a bit.
  • 1) i use calibre (synced to a cloud drive, but that's just so I can use it across multiple computers - it's not necessary for sending to kindle).

    • purchase from A-A
    • add to calibre
(- optionally fix the metadata, fix the HTML, fix formatting, reduce image size, covert to epub if not already)
    • send to kindle / other device (from an IMAP email to the kindle one)
  • Used calibre to email the books to my kindle until MS blocked me as spam

You can add a pause between each email which may stop it getting flagged as spam.

But yes, basically download, add into calibre, email to device (with the last two being bulk operations).

  • That's good to know. I was doing a load of kids books just before holiday.

I should give it another go to see if it's still blocked. If it is, is there a way to add to a safe list in Hotmail/Outlook?
