Wow, that sounds like an envious position to be in!
Is it more to self-teach and practice in the downtime, or is she gonna want to have enough scope for playing out?
At the former end, an iPad with stuff like Koala and BandLab for learning the basics (do post in production thread though as ianal). Then for DJ practice there are apps like djay, which you can use with a Tidal subscription for the actual music and track prep and management: https://www.algoriddim.com/tidal#
I would do more research on this if that’s the way you go. It will depend on what sort of music she is into playing - Tidal may have loads of it available but may not. There are probably other equivalent subscriptions - I’m thinking Beatport and Beatsource - but I’m not fully up on what exists and what works with what. There will be some consideration to make about how they support streaming/downloading of the music and what sort of connection you’ll need available.
While you can dj ‘on screen’, I’d recommend getting a hardware controller like the ddj200, if you can afford the space - https://www.pioneerdj.com/en/product/controller/ddj-200/black/overview/
At the other end of the scale, then Mac Book with Logic (deffo ask in production thread about that!). Will also want to get Pioneer Rekordbox for library management and track prep. Will also be able to play out in most places because they will be on the Pioneer ‘eco system’, so she’ll be able to export playlists to usb and plug and play.
In reality, either set up would let you hook up to any PA system (with varying degree of difficulty) and get a set going, though.
I’m after some advice please.
My girlfriend has just got into mixing using a friends setup and is hooked, she also has ideas of remixes she’d like to make and add into the dj mixes.
The problem is that we’re about to head off cycle touring for the next year or so. I’d love this to be part of her life as we tour.
What would be a great way to do this on the road? Via a laptop or iPad? Any small and light hardware considered.
I might stick this in the music producer thread too.
