Does anyone know of anyone who has ever actually got a ticket or any other action from an average speed zone? I've never heard of it happening and basically don't believe they are used.

Also, allowing speed cameras to be put in big yellow boxes is the stupidest, most craven sop to the car lobby imaginable.

The cameras are there to slow the cars down, not to collect monies. If they're visible, people slow down, and they serve their purpose, no?

Not really, if people are only slowing down in the immediate vicinity of the camera.

The threat of not seeing and being caught by a more discrete camera should have greater effect.

But they speed until just before, slam the brakes on and then speed after.
