anyone had this dynamo -> usb charger long enough to give a little review?

looking for something for an upcoming trip, but not sure whether to go for this or the sinewave revolution

My newly laced Shutter Precision PL-7 vibrates noticeably (through bars&seat) beyond 30-35km/h. Anybody got the same issue?
The pv-8 in my brompton doesn't behave like this. Also never had this issue with shimano.

Is the axle tight and hub nice n secure..?

yes - tested it on two different bikes. one with thru axle and another one with qr conversion axle

Has anyone had any experience of the Sinewave Reactor? I'm finishing off a randonneur build with a SON 28 dynohub and I was wondering about using the hub to charge things (probably mostly charging a powerbank, to then charge other things at a steady power). The Ahead topcap options seem the neatest to me.

For $90 more you can get it built into a light.
I think the Cinq 5 is a cool option for steerer tube mounted charger.

Anyone know a way of testing to see if a dynamo hub works when its not built into a wheel? I dont think spinning it by hand will be fast enough to power a light
-
• #1986
Um, you might be surprised - can you tie a weight to one of the spoke holes, hold the ends tight and spin?!

Mount it in a fork, wrap a long piece of string round the body and pull.

Would a continuity check work? The only issues I've ever heard are wire failures or magnets coming loose. And the magnets would be audible with a shake

For those of you invested in this, yes you can spin a dynamo by hand to power a light! I only realised after I rigged it all up with string in a fork, that the lamp was switched off. The 30 quid SP I bought aboug 3 years ago is finally going to get built into a wheel :)

30 quid SP
Wow, bargain.

Has anyone used a dynamo hub to power di2 without a battery??
-
• #1992
I don't think it's possible. There's not a lot of electronics in the battery but there is some.

Chapman cycles just posted on instagram about doing exactly this

• #1994
Why?

• #1995
So when you go up a hill in the big ring and then run out of steam and end up at 5kph and 10 RPM cadence, your power cuts out to prevent you from shifting. Obvious

is defo possible

yes

I mean, that's 10 speed. I still can't see how you'd get around the system not recognising the battery.
Comments suggest butchering the 11 speed external battery mount for the chip in it. That's the only way I can see it working. On 12 speed, the battery is the junction between derailleurs so I very much doubt you can do without it there either.

does that mean you cant charge 12 speed di2 while riding?
Does your LBS take c2w? Mine was willing to accept the money then build the wheel.
