Soma Fog Cutter, almost new, lovely spec

  • Hey there,

    Open to offers. £1600

I’m selling my bike because I’ve had a kid and never ride it. I’ve got a different kid carrying friendly bike which seems to be my new “one bike”.

I had this bike built last august and sadly I’ve barely rode it since, the knobbles are still on the tyres to prove it! As is the film on the front badge. Unfortunately my wife’s bike banged into it in the shed so there’s a small chip off the paint and two even smaller ones next to it. See pics. It’s noticeable if you point it out but otherwise the frame is in great condition.

    About the frame from Soma:

The Fog Cutter is an endurance road/road sport design. This is the frame you want for grand fondos, long days in the saddle and the most demanding commutes. We designed it to fit wider road tires and fenders, but its geometry makes it handle like a good road bike rather than CX or gravel bike or hybrid.

    • Tange Prestige double butted CrMo steel tubing; heat treated throughout

    • Road sport geometry

    • Rear rack & fender mounts

    • Tange Modular dropouts. Stock setup is for 142mm thru-axle hubs and flat mount disc brakes. Alternative styles available thru Tange/Long Shen.

    • Tire clearance for 700c x38mm with fenders (some front derailleurs will limit tire clearance) and 650b x 42mm

    • Fits 1-1/8" headset (EC34/28.6|EC34/30 headsets)

    27.2mm post size

    Paint: Cerulean Blue

56cm should suit riders around 5’9"-6’0”. But it’s very individual and you can change stem/seat post very cheaply if after a couple of hundred miles you realise you need to make a change.

I wanted a really fast touring bike, so the gearing is set up to go super low with a lovely low gear of 24 gear inches, but still able to speed nicely downhill with 114 gear inches (standard 50/34 range is around 30-130 gear inches).

I love these cranks. If you’ve heard of White Industry then you know how amazing they are. N.B if you want gear shifts that are incredibly silky smooth for racing etc then swapping out for the GRX cranks would provide that. However these work perfectly well and don’t freak out unless you’re changing gears in a very very weird way and they’re the best (and most stylish) way of getting those low touring gears we all want on a long ride with lots of hills, but with 2x rather than going 1x with no high gears.

I had the steerer tube cut nice and high meaning the bars are the same hight as the saddle which is great on the neck for multi-rides or very long day rides. I’m 6ft. Obviously at very little cost this is changable if you want to slam it down and race around. My bike shop also has a spare lower cut fork in the back, if you want to be a two fork person for touring or racing, just let me know!

The tyres are incredibly comfortable and generally a complete luxury at £140 a pair. As are the cowchipper bars (£80) which are a perfect compromise of drop and sweep for comfort and control. Bar tape is basically as new.

GRX shifters are very comfy and incredible enjoyable to use.

I had the wheelset made up for lightweight-ish touring in mind, they’re still really fast though! Basically perfect for commuting and gravel riding.

Bottom bracket/bar tape/chain have done less than 50 miles.

  • Nice spec.
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/147970/ have a quick read of the classified rules. No cross posting with ebay.

  • Hi, sorry it’s off eBay now, took it down this morning

  • Hey, can you send me the link on eBay? I took it down but it might still be up there.

  • If you end up splitting the bike I am interested in the chainset if they are 175mm

  • Looks like it's down now

  • Great frames these
Also, seconds on the chainset if its 170mm and you end up splitting

  • They’re 170, feel free to make me an offer, I could split the bike up and sell for parts

  • I'd be interested in the levers / brakes / rear mech if you do decide to split.

  • Make me an offer I can’t refuse!
