I sure he’s got grx800 1x I don’t know if like sram you can mod them and fit a shifter paddle in there or not. So I’m guessing you need a new lever? He’s not very DIY.
Personally I say just go fixed ;D -
• #28103
Do they specific 1x shifters that are cheaper?
Personally I'd pay the extra to have a more versatile bike.
I keep the SS/fixed for shopping bike duties -

That's just pretentious bullshit, nothing about this bike is old.

Just had a look grx810 1x lh lever £100ish 2x £220ish and the 1x can’t be converted.
I have no front mechs on any of my bikes…
I think he’s running a tiny little ring so maybe a FD wouldn’t pick it up anyway? -

That's fair enough if the internals are different and you're saving money and never going to go ride it in the alps or whatever. It wouldn't work for me but I'm a fucking edge case at the best of times.

It does seem like half of what he says is fictional and none of it is rational.

Bar end friction front shifter and mech is the way to go really. Even on hydro. Cheap, basically maintenance free, adaptable, compatible and cool.

You’ve spelt head wrong mate :p

Word.

And obviously the best place for the bar end shifters is on the aero bar where it doesn't protrude so annoyingly.

• #28112
I never said which end!
-
• #28113
Oh, that would actually be pretty good.

In a positive sense though, kind of like gonzo journalism?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. -
• #28117
it utilizes a manual bail-out front shifter to keep things simple. He also added an extra outer ring to work as a bash guard.
This seems like a very Bachelor of Arts way to say 'A triple.'

Hunt Gravel Race wheelset (£400 on promo) vs. Hope 20FIVE Pro 5 SP CL (£580)
What do the crew here reckon?

Hunt Gravel Race wheelset
it's novatec/ hubsmith (i believe) with kinlin rims. Hope hubs will last longer, Hunts dont have a great QC reputation - you could get arkane to build you with same/ equivalent (or better) parts and better built
or this https://www.ryanbuildswheels.co.uk/product/club-gravel-disk-brake-wheelset/

I was considering some Hope 20Fives, but I've had two friends who've had rim failures with those.
Ended up with these - Hope Pro 5 (4 for me as 5 wasn't out yet) on DT Swiss GR531 rims - £520.
The rims are much wider than 20Five rims & the wheels are still really true after a good year's bashing around.
Also agree withb @stelfox, had some Hunt wheels & the freehub gave out, then the nipples all corroded so they're basically useless now.

Converging both of the above:
Special shout out to Ryan Builds Wheels mentioned above also ^ -

I don't think those are Kinlin rims? As for hub failures, yes I've read they did have some, but have moved on from that. As ever, the package looks good, and support too.
I like Hope's pitch for their hubs and am surprised to hear they've had failures with their own-branded rim. Hubs that can be repaired, rebuilt, and re-purposed are a good thing imo.
My target bike is a Fairlight Secan and I see they have dropped Hunt wheels for their standard builds, which now come on Hope wheels built by Arkane Wheelworks — who I think are on here?

But I had to rebuild a rear wheel this past year because of cracking near the nipple on a 20five rim. They were well used, but bit ridiculous that they lasted not much longer than a rim brake rim. Allegedly the new (or soon to be released?) 20five rims are built better/wider.
But yes, just get Martin to build you wheels and problem is solved!
So what are they using for the other lever?
If they're only riding flat stuff why not ditch the RD and go SS? Do it properly :)
