ULEZ is central govt policy, and - even tho it is a good policy - labour can’t help but try to disown it by pinning it on a their own mayor. These people are fucking idiots.
Starmer backed the policy in January.

For once Johnson was close to the truth with his weather vein jibe.

Wes Streeting going to the mat for Labour’s terf-in-chief Rosie Duffield. Plenty reassuring for anyone who had doubts on how shit a labour govt was likely to be on trans rights.
-
• #3779
Indeed. The same Rosie Duffield liked a tweet from a noted transphobe that denied the fact that trans people were killed during the holocaust.

The big tent.. The Novara team spitting chips over the green rollback. Interesting to see how Keef keeps the troops in line this autumn.

Is there a single Tory policy in existence that these craven cunts won’t ‘sadly’ adopt wholesale?
-
• #3783
the idea makes him “deeply unhappy” as it is the last thing the party wants to do. But he said Labour would have “no choice but to deal with the mess we inherit
Seems they realise, unfortunately, they'd not be able to decommission them immediately. Not sure any party taking power could do much otherwise though?

first time on this thread but I watched 'cathy come home' last week and read a bit about its impact. i can't recommend it highly enough. then i was reminded its director Ken Loach had his party membership revoked. i want to say this is very upsetting but rather than trigger comment on KS's insolence i just want to implore people to watch the film as I think that is more beneficial.

Accepting something exists is not the same as adopting it.
You may as well ask why labour don't ignore Brexit and instantly be in the EU again. -
• #3786
They’re not in government, this is all about messaging, and apparently the message they want to send is “we’ll treat asylum seekers inhumanly but we’ll be sad about it”.
-
• #3787
They stated they exist but labour will work to process clams and remove them? So what would you say or do differently?
-
• #3788
process clams and remove them
Jesus, is nothing safe anymore? What have the clams done?
-
• #3789
It's just more blue Labour, Tory light, shellfish bashing from Sir Clam Chowder.
-
• #3790
I’m not a politician, but I reckon with a little effort I could come up with a more stirring line than “We’ll carry on treating people like shit till we clear the backlog”
A simple commitment to move people off barges into appropriate accommodation would be a start.
-
• #3791
But that wasn't the line.
-
• #3792
Yeah thats not what he said, not what was intended.
-
• #3794
Admirable that labour came out to say they had a hard on for the legionella barge just days before it turned into a massive fuckup, incredible work.
-
• #3795
I mean you've got to wonder about the motivation of someone who hears:
“The reality is, on day one we will have to deal with the we have and the shambolic mess they have left us. We’ll be left with no choice but to deal with the mess we inherit.”
And describes it as having a "hard on" for the barges.

Clean air is a Tory policy apparently.

I mean it was wasn't it?
-
• #3798
TBF day one and hard on, do sound pretty similar.
-

Labour basically promising to be Cameron-era Tories. What even is the point of them these days?
-
• #3800
Did you expect the parliamentary Labour party to be anything but the same old same old? As has been stated before, there are no real policy differences between Labour and the Tories. Just some culture war gloss.
What we really need is another pro pollution party
