Has anyone here modified a Supersix (mine is 2011 model) to use the 46/30T Spiderring? The bracket for the front mech is located for a 50T min big ring, so way I see it is either the bracket must be replaced with one that has a deeper slot, or removed to permit the use of a band-on.

Could you use something like this to lower the FD further?

fucking hell, just bought an FSA supercompact adapter yesterday for a LOT more than that. Couldn't believe how much they cost, still can't

I run a 46/30 on my CAAD12, same problem. FD is a red 22 etap. It works without an adaptor, but there's like 10mm gap between the FD and the ring.

This means the FD is adjusted to not shoot too much beyond the big ring when front shifting, as that would drop the chain. Because the FD is limited in its outward travel, I can't front shift if the RD is on the 4 lowest gears (bigger cogs). From mid-cassette onwards it front shifts fine.

It's not ideal, so I'm getting an adapter like Pifko says, hoping that'll do the trick

Shimano explicitly requires the outer cage plate to clear the big ring by <1 mm. The optimum way would be to remove the existing bracket and replace it with a new deeper bracket, riveted in to the existing rivet holes. But executing that mod is perilous and likely not a DIY job.
