There were a couple of seats up their if you were traveling on your own but not so good if you want to sit with your travelling companion.
It's true that you aren't there for long but check-in allegedly closes before they let anyone board so IMHO they should have enough seats for everyone.
There will be a number of people happy to stand and move around, where able to. Seats also cost and take up space..in fact why do people want to sit before long journeys where they are going to be sitting down?

'cause they have spent a week walking round tourist stuff, are part way through a journey and their feet are tired. I was less bothered at St Pancras on the way out
