So if you take the card that ends their race then? Would they be 'out of GC' or refused at the CP's to continue?

Giving up your card is a scratch from the race, no?

Well I think that rule predates the whole GC thing. So I'd assume it would not simply be out of GC. Seems right to me. Also I don't think the whole giving of brevet card is needed. Just report it.

I've re-read the rules. I may have been OK on the basis that it wasn't safe for me to spend extra time waiting for him to fish out his card at the side of the road. What is says is this:

"Should any solo rider or pairs riders receive outside assistance from another rider in the race then this is classed as an assisted finish and is not eligible for either the Solo or Pairs classification since riders must start and finish under the rules of their classification in order to qualify. Further to this wherever a rider assists another, both riders are collectively responsible for upholding the rules and therefore collectively in breach and will not qualify for classification. All riders involved would receive a race finish but remain outside of their classification.
The exception to this is that riders can help another rider in an emergency situation on the understanding that the rider who needs the help gives up their Brevet Card to the helping rider and scratches from the race (physically handing over the brevet card may not be practicable nor a priority in some circumstances). This allows the helping rider to help/rescue a rider in distress and also achieve a Solo finish. If a rider gets themselves into a situation where they required rescue then carry on to finish, whatever the merits of their ride they cannot reasonably be said to have completed the TCR within the general classification."

Even this is ambiguous because it first says that the rider asking for help is scratching, and then that they can't be GC.

OK - that's what I did, I feel better now! But the way I read the rules first time is that, in giving the tube and not getting the card I was out too.

Usually people who turn up with that amount of saddle drop only last a couple of days: he must have great flexibility and strong neck muscles!

Next time buy a cheeky tube under €1 and share a 'human moment':

Christoph and Ulrich shared a drink which cost €1. The drink was requested by Ulrich, and purchased by Christoph. While in essence this is outside assistance by a fellow rider and therefore contrary to Rule 2, it is also a human moment between two riders who wanted to recognise each other’s success on the Race so far. The Transcontinental Race Manual refers to such incidents as ‘doing something cheeky’ - a lapse in judgement or lack of focus on the rules that results in little or no impact on the Race as a whole.

Bike check at the finish would be interesting. Not exactly a canyon.

Yeah not pleasant. I can’t answer for them but I’m just trying to highlight that it’s not always as simple for everyone. Conformity and obedience is a really interesting sphere.

Anyway, I don't see a logic for being DQ'd for helping someone out, on the premise they get DQ'd (or whatever) afterwards. Why punish someone who's potetnially saved one's life yet gains them nothing regarding the GC placement?!

From TCRN09 Podcast Day 9, did you get that Katharina Siegel cap 133 decided to scratch for lack of funding after some expensive hotel nights in Swiss?
Not sure... just asking because it is a pity, she was doing okay...

Having look at the map last night and noticed Mikko was quite a way off to get to cp4 in time. Looks like he’s absolutely smashed it and is just coming into it now. Amazing.
