• They are looking at longer sections than just riding together for a while when you happen to have a similar pace, the most obvious indicator is having breaks together, stopping and then leaving again together, as that wouldn't be a coincidence if there is a pattern in both your riding pace and the length and location of your stops. At least that's how it was when I was volunteering.

    I haven't looked into the details more than this, but it seems like they had the same pace for one and half days at the beginning of the race.

  • That could happen. I know other riders will grass up cheats too.

    I've reported riders in the past for assisting other riders or doing dodgy stuff like walking the parcours without their bike.

    It's made very clear that for the benefit of everyone, the organisers want you to report dodgy behaviour.

    From the older rules: "You are strongly encouraged to report foul play in your fellow riders. This should not be viewed as malicious against the rider(s) concerned, but a favour and duty to the racing community for preserving an honest self policing racing culture."

  • They might have, when I was volunteering I think a media car found a couple of riders drafting each other, so apparently they do try to look for such things.
