Maybe the UCI needs to do x-rays of complete bikes. But that would be slow and expensive. In the meantime perhaps we could have a video analysis widget to autodetect acceleration when seated.
They did. https://www.bicycling.com/news/a20049889/uci-xray-machine-motor-doping/

I knew that, but I didn't write my post very well! I've read they use the X-Ray machine as a further test for the few bikes which give an iffy result with the i-pad test. What I should have said is that perhaps the x-ray test should be standard? Which would be challenging, because the machines are huge, and slow to use. Yet another post-stage chaotic log jam for tired riders.
Edit: they showed off their x-ray machine in 2018. At the time it was the only one https://youtu.be/-iRwwquk7v0

The second person to be caught motor doping is Alessandro Andreoli, 53, a tiler. In 2017 he was DQ'd after an amateur race in Italy. Officials with a thermal camera detected 'fire' in his seat tube. They claim he admitted to having a motor, but later he told La Gazzetta Dello Sport that he'd never said any such thing. The officials wanted to dismantle his bike, but he said there wasn't time because he was late for a wedding. And that he'd forgotten who he'd bought the bike from. It was just someone he'd met in the street, and he didn't have their number. Anyway, his accusers were just jealous of his money. https://www.bicycling.com/news/a20011767/italian-cyclist-disqualified-mechanical-doping/ https://www.gazzetta.it/Ciclismo/31-07-2017/ciclismo-andreoli-bici-truccata-presa-uno-sconosciuto-210675962546.shtml

so sad

Why would he sign with a second tier team when Vino has a guaranteed spot at the tour. Only 500 followers that account too seems a bit suspect.
Yeah it's a fake account.
-
• #46834
Of course it's a fake account. He's signed for Arkea, effective immediate, as a lead out for Demare.

New singning though

The expected clash of Britain’s sporting ambitions and its (ugly) immigration policy has happened; four of the Eritrean team, including Biniam Girmay, have been refused visas to race the Worlds on Sunday.

fucking embarrassing

• #46838
Isn't it? And it happens every single time Britain hosts a major sporting event. Which are only hosted by the country because of government support.

Shameful & embarrassing.

Ffs. This country is utter dogshit sometimes

Lawson Craddock missed last year's worlds in Australia because of visa problems. Given that some of the Eritreans got visas and the ones who didn't all seem to live in San Merino it might be more cock up than policy. That's not to defend this government in any way or its terrible policies but there's clearly no 'ban' on Eritrean athletes in general.
-
• #46842
also wont the EU athletes also need a visa now as technically its for 'work' ?

Should be stopped at the gates. Bloody Europeans, coming over here, winning OUR races.
Brexit means brexit!

Girmay has withdrawn anyway, due to the injuries he suffered in his crash at San Sebastian at the weekend.
