That's why I'd put a number to it and leave your question to the philosophers. I think the number is somewhere in the vicinity of 100cm² for the total red area, similar rule for the rear elevation to allow a behind the arse bottle without turning it into Oscar Egg
No, I was simply pointing out that despite all the fuss back then, most of the fast people now are more shielded than Nik ever was. You can't have zero shielding, because even a flat MTB bar blocks the rider to an extent of about 50cm2
