Fork mounts are rated at 5kg I believe.
As for whether this is a safety issue… maybe?
I was hoping someone would comment in this thread telling me if this is too sketchy. -
• #228
I think it is too sketchy, i would consider using the lower eyelets. Fundamentally a triangle is static and if the bolts are tightened it is fine, but if some slight and invisible play develops, then the eyelets will start taking efforts.

Hows the s3 👀👀

I’ll see if I can get some longer struts and get it down to the second set of bosses.
Would prefer not to lose my teeth. -

Full camping setup weighing 2.8kg (bag included, pegs included, poles excluded) and fit into a randobag.

What tent are you running?
-
• #233
Tent: Naturehike Cloudup 1
Quilt: Aegismax Wind Hard Twilight
Mat: Alpkit Cloud BaseThe tent, as it comes, is a touch bulky but repacking it and strapping each section gets some way to making it smaller. Poles will either be strapped to the frame, or in framebag.

Struts have been moved down and rack leveled.
If someone has anything to say regarding safety please do...
I'm feeling confident enough with it.
Total weight distributed through two fork leg mounts and the fork crown is: approx. 3.1kg.
I'll probably put some slightly higher quality bolts on the side and maybe some Loctite. Feels pretty secure.Handling is a bit heavier, as expected, but not too bad at all once tyre pressure on the front is increased.

That looks really smart. I wouldn't want any more weight on that little rack though. Best keep it around 3kg to be safe :)
-
• #237
You'll probably add other bags but a 3kg baseweight for a overnighter is super low, i.e., the little stuff will pile up, but might fit in a framebag of some sort. But then there's food too..

Yes, I'm adding another bag with a small amount of clothing, tools/spares and, electronics.
I don't like the aesthetics of tube shaped saddle bags so I'm going to use a frame bag (pictured) most likely.

Here is my track bike at the moment.

If you added another set of struts to another set of bosses that would maybe make it safer? Also might be good to have a safety strap from the tomb stone to the handlebars.
-
• #241
If your going travelling with that restrap rando bag, make sure you threadloc (plastic safe one) the magnets screw things in the bottom.
I was on a trip with a friend whose came loose, bag went everywhere when hitting a bump.

Oh I don't have one, I assume @samrensho is swapping his out but either way he's not very hard on his components so I'm sure it'll be fine....

I like the overall aesthetic and tone of this thread
Obvs you need a brompton
-
• #244
Isn't 5kg the rating when all three mounts are used? I'm going off the fairlight cempa fork which says
"3 x adventure cage mounts on each leg. Max load of 3kg per leg"
Different fork ofc.

@King_Saxlingham I've got it zip-tied down and seems it seems pretty secure. Most likely changing the bag out anyway.
@Belagerent Not sure its possible to add a second set of struts with this rack. It feels pretty secure but sudden catastrophic failure doesn't really care about what it 'feels like' I suppose.
Carbonda's page does say it's suitable for racks but that isn't much to go on, to be honest.Total weight including rack is approx. 3.2kg , and that split between two leg mounts and one crown mount is approx. 1kg each mount. I'm sure there is weight distribution difference between the crown and the leg mounts but for simplicity lets say that. That sounds reasonably safe to me? I guess we will find out...
@jmg412 I think I'll get on with it after summer. It needs lots of parts and some repair to the frame.
@amey I would actually love a brompton... -
• #246
If Carbonda says it's OK then I guess why not. I think I would def run a voile through the handlebar for a little security but other than that IDK. Just say a prayer before each speedbump.

It's actually a set up I've been thinking about running on my veloci no11 forks which are identical to yours. So pleased to see you trying it first ha!
Wouldnt mind hauling my sarnies in a nice rack and back to work.
Edit: this is specifically what I've been thinking about, regarding front racks /, baskets on carbon forks....it would spread the load between all mounting points and look nice whilst doing it...
Oh BTW those are brazed tubes onto the other mounting points, if it wasn't clear...
Patent pending or whatnot lol

I mean the ones actually on the bottom of the bag, they only have a tiny amount of thread on them. Maybe they've changed the design since then though.

That is a really smart idea. Nitto has another rack, m1, which has a similar sort of concept.
@King_Saxlingham Ah, I see now. I'll look into it, thanks.
Great looking bike, think i'd like something like this down the line. Carbon/rando novice question but is the fork designed to take a rack like that? How much weight can you put on there?
