  • uber bike components is the place for brake pads (in my experience). Tell them what you have and they tell you what to buy.

  • Am I to think that when the infographic say wear rate is high, what it actually means is that durability is high?

  • If you say yes my eyes will bleed

  • I use their ebike specific blue pads for Hope V4, and used them on my E4 too...very happy with them and they last pretty well.

  • We decided not to fly for this summer holidays and so we took the ferry to Sweden instead and rode some of the Kattegattleden, which is part of the Eurovelo7. While I haven't been converted by the electric-assist for urban use, it was definitely appreciated this time round. Cycling with kid(s) is just the best.

  • I found a nice cargo bike in Brighton but I’m out in Margate. What are the chances of getting on the train? It’s a long John style but narrower (Gazelle Cabby)

  • I'd look at van hire (if you drive) or Shiply (if you don't) instead - I think you'd struggle to even get it through the train doors and round the corner into the bike section of the train, not to mention any stairs etc at the station.

  • Hey, yeah I did - it's been great! I haven't used it as much as I'd like to for various reasons but hoping to change that soonish. Stuck with the stock firmware for now, I've not had any issues. Mostly it's for carrying my daughter around and she's a bit speed averse so I'm not looking to make it go too fast. In the end I didn't have time to do the conversion myself but took it to Seabass in Peckham and they did a solid job.

  • This sounds awesome! I wonder if there are any hire places for cargo bikes - would love to copy this

  • If only there were alternatives to the tubes sliding in bushings design…

Out of curiosity what other options are there?

  • Any omnium owners on here have a Omnium Backrest to sell?
    Thanks

  • For 2-wheelers, not that I know of unfortunately (in Denmark at least).

  • Bike trailer as long John canopy?

So I’ve built a DIY long John cargo bike for me and the kid and currently riding with a maxi cosi car seat and iso fix mount. Looking for a weather protected solution to use when he grows out of the baby seat. I’m used to Thule / chariots bike trailers and was thinking to buy a knackered one for cheap and chop it up to fit the bike. Has anyone done this or seen any examples?
Or can think of any reasons not to?

  • Solid, non-suspension fork?

  • Has anyone here built or know anyone that has either built a Carla Cargo trailer from the Open Source plans or that would be interested in helping out with the cutting and welding?

  • You could have a linkage driven design which isolates the breaking and loading forces from the device that provides the spring and the damping. You'd probably still end up with a tube sliding in a tube (a 'telescope') to provide the damping and / or the spring, but at least you'd only have one telescope that could be made stronger than a pair, and it wouldn't get fucked by having to deal with breaking and loading forces. On the fringes of MTB land, there is prior art in this, like the Trust fork, but they don't catch on probably because 'normal' motor-x style forks are just about good enough as long as users service their forks every fifty hours or so.

Or you could use a leaf spring design - Lauf is the obvious example of this.

You could also make a better telescope design by using needle bearings to provide the sliding surfaces that are far more resistant to loading, twisting forces - this is what Cannondale have done in their Lefty suspension systems.

  • I've built a couple of cargo trailers, I've used square tubes, mostly recycled gates, the measurements I've used so my toolboxes with dollies would fit. Wondering why do you want to copy carla cargo open source plans?

  • Yup bmw and many other motorcycle mftr have made and perfected front end that don't use a regular telescopic fork, especially for larger and heavier use machines. Many benefits as you say including brake dive isolation.

  • We are clearing all our cargos, new, demo and used. As we are moving overseas!
    Benno boost, remidemi, ejoy.
    Achielle bikes
    EBullitt
    Omniums (loads).

All in Glasgow, only posting new boxed Omniums everything else is collect only or have your own courier (too many issues recently with couriers!).
Message for prices etc, trying to keep this thread clean. Thanks.

  • Yeah. Willing to bet 95% of the time those noddy forks on cargo bikes are just binding under stress forces and grinding themselves to bits.

  • Are you moving and closing the shop down, or moving the shop?

  • Cheers, that’s good to know. I’m not worried about going faster than standard either. Was just a bit worried the basic firmware set up might be a bit crap.
