  • Not massively dirty but I would prefer it cleaner if I was doing a fit. How much is the cleaning fee?
And where's the fit being done if you don't mind me asking

  • I don't think the place that did my fit would have anywhere to clean a bike, but then the fitting was done on a jig so i dont think that much dust etc would have been a problem, my bike just had a few measurements taken as a starting point

  • The heart wants what the heart wants, and Fairlight doesn’t exude romance, but in regular size the top tube is actually more towards horizontal than the crust, and I quite like the ovalised/ flattened cross section of it, it looks ‘lighter’ to me. No arguments about the downtube. I just think the fairlight is a better bike than the crust but I’ll stop going on about it now

  • Best thing to do is probably learn to weld and do it yourself

  • To be honest I didn't even ask about the cleaning fee - I wouldn't have a problem with some extra fee but it immediately felt like a standoff.

He also offered for me to just go the nearest car wash and hose spray it myself but I've got so infuriated, I've decided to just part ways. Somehow didn't feel comfortable with clenching my teeth and spending another 2 hours together when it started like this.

It's not in the UK, i'm based in Lithuania.

  • It's not in the UK, i'm based in Lithuania

    Yeah, I'm aware. It's why I asked

didn't feel comfortable with clenching my teeth and spending another 2 hours together when it started like this

    Completely understand this

  • Thats exactly it, the Faran is a very capable and practical bike but doesnt "spark joy".

If I were to be getting rid of 2 - 3 bikes/frames, the bike replacing it would need spark some kind of lust / joy and not just tick the functional box...A CDF would do that.

    Dreamer V my Rapture.

Ideal geo compared to my rapture. Very similar but more swiss army knife.

  • He also offered for me to just go the nearest car wash and hose spray it myself

I'd be more annoyed by a wet (soon to be a dry bike with rusty bits) bike than what looks to be a relatively clean one that's been ridden there.

  • If offering fit on grav biek, why angry that biek has been gravved?

Cycling industry is a fucking magnet for weird cunts.

  • Cycling industry is a fucking magnet for weird cunts

I was wondering what to rename this thread next

  • Dunno about the dirt but it looks like it's gonna piss sealant over something soon :D

  • I've worked with a fair number of neat freaks in the bike industry, probably one of those. Good manners to have the bike clean if someone gonna be handling it anyways.

  • It's not even fucking dirty, it's a bit dusty at worst.

  • Does this mean you're not allowed to ride your bike to a bike fit at that place?

  • John at Clever Mike once asked me where the dirt on my bike had come from as he'd never seen anything like it. Felt oddly flattered.

  • Pretty much this. Also if its a proper fit, the fitter has to touch the bike, you/your kit, your contact points, any new stuff they have to show you, fresh saddle, fresh bar tape etc etc. It used to drive me mad having to go clean my hands mid fit.

    What's wrong with the fit?

  • I know i'm not the tidiest person out there but I don't see an issue of having a few specks of mud on a bicycle. It's meant to be ridden outside.

That being said I'm not the most diplomatic person as well and got some stupid principles - would rather burn bridges than find compromises.

  • I once was asked by a Dulwich Paragon rider in a very condescending tone, and after having just done their RotFL ride, "Why is your bike so dirty?"

I genuinely didn't know how to answer, other than "Because I've ridden it?"

  • where the dirt on my bike had come from

From the fiery depths of Mordor.

  • Ride of the Failing Lungs/Fetid Liquid etc is a VCL ride, not DP...

I helped out years back with a massive VCL youth group, one of whom, a now famous pro fell off and got properly inundated in the muddy bit of Pilgrims.

  • dulwich paragon

    say no more
