  • I have a couple of pairs of Cubitts.
First pair were bought pre-lockdown and still going strong.

  • I’ve pulled the trigger on vintage vinylize frames (Camaro) and new varifocal lenses.. collect end of October. Four years since my last eyewear purchase.

  • Cazels today.

Big pimping as an overweight, middle aged, white man.
(Pimping is used loosely, I am actually responding to emails all day, ironically from people saying "where's my money?")

  • Just had an eye test at Specsavers, which I booked with specific frames in mind that I thought they had, but they don't.

Anyone know where I can get these frames with my prescription lenses in - not prescription sunglass lenses, clear ones.

  • I have those in sunglass form from Select Specs.
Seems they don't have clear as an option online, but might be worth a call.
Or go longhand, buy them as sunnies and get them reglazed with clear Rx lenses (time consuming though)

  • Does anyone know where i can order prescription lenses from? looking to fit them myself, rather than sending my glasses away and having it fitted.

  • Cheers. Couldn’t get through but rang around some other places. John Lewis were initially unsure whether they could get prescription clear lenses into those frames because apparently the plastic of the frames is very hard and rigid, and presumably sunglasses lenses are flexible enough to manipulate into them. Anyway, they reckon they can do them for me so off there at the weekend to try and sort it.

  • I have previously been directed towards some good quality mid-range sunglass brands, around the £50 mark, but currently failing to remember/refind them. Any recommendations from here? Cheers

  • Good shout thank you

  • I fell off a moped recently and broke my sunglasses. I need some new ones. Sub £50 and suitable for a man with a narrow face. I hate it when they poke out miles in front of your eyes, you know? Ladies styles welcome as they often suit me better. Where should I be looking?

  • Izipizi glasses are worth a look

  • A bit like someone asked a while ago…. I have some NOS retrosuperfuture frames, and my prescription which says I need varifocal/occupational/similar lenses. I would like to send off my frames for someone to make and fit the lens. Done some googling of course but would much prefer any rec from anyone on here who has had good experience. Thanks.

  • I used these people - was pretty happy with them although hard to compare https://lensology.co.uk/

  • Thanks Gustav I have contacted them.

  • Bollocks.

Lost a pair of glasses last week.

Cheapy cheap frames (£40 iirc), but a mind boggling £250 for the lenses.

  • I'm due an eye test which has been expedited with my glasses falling apart over the weekend. My last few have all been at Cubitts for general ease but I’m not really feeling another pair of Cubitts glasses and at £40 for their standard eye test I am wondering how it stacks up against other eye tests.

London based, +0.75/-2.75 with no astigmatisms.

  • at £40 for their standard eye test I am wondering how it stacks up against other eye tests

About double the price I'd say.

  • My local specsavers are doing £10 tests at the mo.

  • Eeesh....just a little bit on the toppy side then!

  • I wish Oakley would get over the pushing of Prism polarised lenses.

If I were an angler I'd want to block vertically polarised light in order to see sub surface fish
and I would put up with the impact on LCD technology screens and weird reflections from ironworks on the pavement. I might even be prepared to pay a £40 premium for that.

But I am not an angler. Nor is basically everybody else in the world and in Oakley's target market.

But if you go into a Sunglasses Hut in an airport, thinking to splurge some holiday money on a sweet new pair of Oakleys, they are all Prism lenses.

    Ray Bans as well.

    Money grabbing shits.

  • I love my polarised sunglasses, makes everything look much better and most phone screens work with them in vertical orientation. The reflections from the ironworks is from you having 2 eyes, just stab one eye to solve the problem.

  • Yep, massive pain in the arse! My cycling glasses are polarised and I can't see my Garmin screen unless it's at a stupid angle.

  • Are your glasses polarised in the wrong orientation? My Garmin looks clearer because it removes the reflection of the glass.
