Alex Baudin of AG2R DQ from Giro for Tramadol positif
-
• #9106
Ag2r Citroën's Alex Baudin returned a positive test for Tramadol during the Giro. As it's his first case, his results fro the Giro are disqualified (and normally he'll be fined and has to pay testing costs too)

UCI Statement:
https://www.uci.org/pressrelease/uci-statement-concerning-alex-baudin/1XdODP4GEC8Y6Y6D5kVlxv"Infringements of the in-competition ban on using tramadol are offences under the UCI Medical Rules. They do not constitute Anti-doping Rule Violations. As this is a first offence, Alex Baudin is not declared ineligible and can therefore participate in competitions."
"The substance will also be banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) from 1st January 2024."

Might be the charges were placed in a jiffy bag and then lost or something?

I take back what I said about British doping... looks like they do get caught.
Just so far down the line they've rinsed all the perks from "winning".

An interesting article suggesting the dirtiness of supplements is not necessarily just a line in defence.
-
• #9119
the dirtiness of supplements is not necessarily just a line in defence
I can't see how "it wasn't me guv" can possibly be an acceptable defence these days unless the product was one of the ones where they independently test every batch, e.g. https://sport.wetestyoutrust.com/sites/default/files/generated-pdf/file.pdf and the defence is supported by reanalysis of the retained batch sample.
It has long been known that you can't trust supplements to
- Contain what they say they do
- Not contain a load of other shit
- Have the effects claimed in the advertisements
But at least you have taken reasonable precautions against #2 if you stick to independently tested and certified products.
- Contain what they say they do

Exactly. You need to use legit stuff and prove contamination, not just be like "oh I was banging scoops of GET MASSIVE - RAGE EDITION T+ ANABOL GAINER 8000 and now I've tested positive for some steroid that wasn't on their ingredient list. Woe is me."

Freeman UKAD ruling out. I really wish Shane Sutton had swallowed his pride and admitted the testosterone was for his domestic purposes. The reputation of our triumphant and blameless Olympic and pro athletes is tarnished until he does.

I really wish Shane Sutton had swallowed his pride and admitted the testosterone was for his domestic purposes
The ruling makes clear that they were not buying that line one bit, and found him guilty of a charge of tampering based on their conclusion that the whole "non-rider patient" story was a complete fabrication
"The second Tampering violation concerned Dr Freeman knowingly providing UKAD with false information that he had written to a non-rider member of staff requesting that they waive patient confidentiality and claiming that they had refused to do so...
...The tribunal was comfortably satisfied that Dr Freeman had ‘intended to make available to one or more of his athletes the Prohibited Substance delivered to the Manchester Velodrome'" -

He hasn't failed a test, as far as I can tell, so it's not a case of checking his b sample and then opening a case if it is positive. It reads like the authorities in Spain have evidence of doping practices operated by Dr Marcos Maynar and have been able to link Lopez to that.
The delay is probably due to having to collate all the evidence and build the case.
