  • Yes, you're right.

  • I'm getting rid of my Keychron K4 (96%) with resin palm rest, with boxes and original accessories.
Barely used, i prefer having the number pad a bit more detached from the other keys so sticking with full size.

RGB Backlight aluminimum version with hot swappable gateron brown switches.

Also Resin palm rest to patch.

    £90 for both?

Just noticed the keys are shiny, they are not worn, just finger marks, will clean and get another photo

  • I think I might have been in cahoots with you about this months back.
Am still interested, but am poor for a month.
If it's still about at the end of May I'll take it, but don't want to call dibs and fuck you about.

  • K2 still going strong, I wish someone made these language keys in backlit. I don't really need them, but I like the contrast and I do get old man brainfarts sometimes and can't remember where certain letters like ξ ψ θ are

  • Taken a punt on a ~£35 "Magic Refiner RK68" mechanical keyboard from Uncle Bezos. Bluetooth with Quiet Red Switches.

Should hopefully be able to leave it at the co-working space so I don't have to carry it round.

Will supply a review once I've had a bash on it.

  • Haven't had enough time to try the Magic Refiner RK68, but "Quiet Red" switches are not that quiet. They're not loud but we'll see how it goes down in the co-working space I use.

In the mean time I did manage to snipe another Filco Majestouch 2 Convertible TKL (with silent red switches) from eBay for £51. That'll act as a nice spare should I need it (too heavy to cart back and forth, so it may end up being left somewhere safe at the co-working space instead and I'll use the Magic Refiner for proper travel).

  • I’ve got drawn into this dangerous world.

  • Oooohh ISO, nice!

Are you using a wrist rest?

  • Cheers! I am loving it and pleased I managed to get ISO... have a Keychron that isn't and its annoying.

No wrist rest, do I need one?!

  • I suppose if your hand can handle that (ergonomically) awful Magic Mouse it will probably do fine without a wrist rest for that keyboard 🙂

  • Nice desk by the way!

  • screen is filthy, i guess you dont need to see accurate colours as a ux guy

  • I can see both the colours perfectly well thanks.

And yeah, whole place needs a dust off.

  • Ha. I love the Magic Mouse! I have other non apple ones and they feel crap on comparison. Also, full screen swipes.

  • Magic Trackpad would look better with your setup though (plus it's awesome : )

  • What's the consensus on low-profile mechanical switches?
I've built a very nice mechanical keyboard I use at my desk at home. It's a beefy motherfucker though. With using that really nice keyboard for hours every day I manoeuvred myself into a spot where I couldn't bear typing on my laptop for long.
So I am thinking about a second nice but more portable and lightweight keyboard for on the go. I am looking at a Nuphy Air 60. Keychron K3s also pop up secondhand quite a lot.
Any educated opinions about those two or is it a waste of money because they won't feel as nice?

  • I have a K7 that I absolutely love. Take it to the library with me and on other trips. The case for it gives peace of mind to chuck it in a bag.

  • If you have the win-fu (or on Linux) you can disable the laptop keyboard and place the K7 over the top of it. I only do that if I have to type on my lap for extended periods, like on a train.

    But it is cool.

  • Those Nuphy's look sweet..

  • low-profile mechanical switches?

I have a keychron k3 ultra-slim with brown switches which I keep at work. It's my second as my first was a US layout which had red switches.

I started to miss a number pad so I got a keychron K4 for my main keyboard. But otherwise I think the K3 is the perfect balance as it has F keys.

While I like the keychron K4, every time I'm in the office I find myself wishing I could have an Ultra-slim
keyboard with brown switches, F keys and a number pad - basically an Ultra-slim K4. The only downside imo is the battery life is less. This has never been an issue, as I just plug it in.

  • I am very much a tactile switch person. I read online that some people feel like the low profile brown switches aren't as tactile as their big brothers and one should go for blue to get the same feeling.
What do you think about that statement?

P.S.: I just found this switch test set and gonna order one.

  • What do you think about that statement?

I initially wrote a sarcy comment about keyboard geeks, but realised I have one of those sample packs so could go and check and say something more helpful.

  • Yeah... They're wrong.

The Keychron and Gateron low profile (LP) blues have a light clickyness that's just nothing like the regular Gateron brown. They are equal to each other... maybe a bit more resistance to the Gateron LP.

However, trying them out I have some other thoughts....

    • Keychron LP brown is much nicer than the Gateron LP brown
    • Keychron LP red and Gateron regular red are very similar, but the Gateron LP red isn't nice.
    • if forced to use Gateron LP from a line up of red, brown, blue, I would not buy red or brown.

Obviously this is all my subjective opinion.

  • Anybody want a Keychron K2 V2 UK ISO layout with Gateron brown (not hot-swap) and white backlight? Only been used for a few hours - I just don't get on with the height.

£40 posted or pick up from central Bristol for £35

    EDIT: now sold
