I forgot to post my floor sanding experiences a few months ago.
We had a very tatty parquet flooring in our hallway, I bought one of these belt sanders:

They are a bit of a beast but made light work of the floor. I then used Bona Classic Primer followed by two coats of Bona Matt Mega Varnish.
