Cage width is probably fine (looking at a m5100 derailleur next to a 9spd one). But the B-Gap of a 1x derailleur like the M5100 wouldn't be ideal with an 11-36 (designed for much steeper 1x cassette angles). Deore M4120 or similar would probably be better.
