  • Turns out cutting glass is not easy - maybe it was toughened or something but anyway - fucked it. Put some leftover poly in. Hinges work okay. Need to do an internal stop to make a seal and get a handle. Big effort today. Vibes are Peroni

  • Looking so good. I like the matchy matchy of the door and window.

  • Thanks - I think i'll keep it for the moment - avoids spending more money and uses up the scrap poly. Got a bit o wind back in my sails now the 'hard bits' are largely done.

  • Shit that's a shame.

Glass cutting is really cheap, so maybe go to a shop?

    It looks really good though.

  • Ta - yeah - wife has said it would be a shame not to have a clear window. There is a local place and seems like will only cost 20Ā£ or so. tube strike next week may mean I can skip the commute and ā€˜workā€™ from home to get this pretty much finished fairly soon. Phew.

  • A day of rain and family time so no progress. But GĆ”lv steel edge to tidy up the eaves has arrived - as well as handles. And got some glass cut for the window.

  • That reminds me I knocked a small window in the former 'pantry' (tiny brick protrusion from kitchen, long since boarded up from kitchen side) into a narrow door (to turn it into a tool shed), got as far as putting some rudimentary linings on, bought a cheap oak door to cut down to fit it and have never got round to doing it. That was years ago. The opening is very wonky.

  • Looks aces! Well done on sneaking a ride in as well.

  • Managed to miss the thread and just devoured it. Love a self build but this is next level. Looks immaculate. Garden is lush too!

  • Glad you enjoyed so far ! The planting needs some work truth be told but itā€™s my other halfā€™s dept and she seems to be on strike.

  • Glass is in without incident - bar me cocking up a measurement for the window sill. So I now have some filling and sanding to do! Seems to open and close okay - Iā€™m not entirely sure is square - true - plumb - whatever - but it is what it is. Work tomorrow but Tuesday will be ceiling )and maybe floor finish) day. Then it will be time for oiling bits and installing ironmongery. Then furniture. Then done. Oh power and light ā€¦ fuck.

  • Looking great.

    What's the bike?

  • Itā€™s a 90s Nigel Dean road frame - I had it powdercoated and built it up. First road bike. Only ridden twice - did a 12mile loop up round aldenham on Sunday - I think I could get into riding bicycles.

  • We killed that banana this year - neglected to wrap it up - it would have been massive this year. - amazingly itā€™s thrown out a new stem and come up again from the roots.

  • Window ironmongery has turned up.

All day doing roof insulation- horrid job compounded by me not thinking through the detail of how to support the ceiling and needing to add blocks to the inside of the rafters and then cut the insulation around them. Foil taped it all up.
Cleared up all the shitty PIR dust, including hoovering the lawn again.

Decided to board the ceiling late in the day - but ran out of steam halfway through. Hey ho.

In case anyone is planning something like this - Iā€™m probably at least 20 days of work in at this point . Spread over 3 months. Stopped tracking spending but I expect will be around 1700.

  • A wfs (work from shed) milestone today - finished the ceiling , hastily built a desk and did about 45mins of actual work before the day was over. Then made pizza in a frying pan.
