It helps when your board are friendly, the company is worth billions, and you're outperforming everyone's portfolio.
The place we went for dinner after... fine dining and we hired a private room, but 2 people had to go to the airport and so we were afraid we weren't going to hit the min spend of $5K for the room... result, the investor (who was paying for this) asked for the wine list. The wine we drank was more than my monthly income.
Also went to somewhere called French Laundry which was pretty nice.
Hard to get a burger in Napa Valley though... even breakfast was fine dining and it gets old very fast.
I still don't know how I came to be here... but I'm 2nd to the CTO in this company of 550 engineers. All of the above is succession planning, exposure to the CTO role and to this level of investor and customer.

I wonder if Elon Musk remains the anonymous webmaster of some forum dedicated to an old hobby of his somewhere...

Oh getting there was a blast too... Ubers, but we all went individually (due to flight arrival timings), and every one of us chose the Uber Comfort EV option.
We all discovered that Tesla drivers on Uber are not anticipating a 1.5-2h drive, mine got to the destination sweating about the 7% range he had left and the absence of superchargers. One of the others had to stop and charge on the way.
$200 taxi rides, each way.

Bit gauche to be bragging about all this in a cozzie livs

coffee was more expensive than my clothes.
Most coffee is more expensive than my clothes. Because most of my clothes are free.
Also: wtf dude, you disgust me! But also, nice one :)

You got there by hard work and brains. I know you've had some knock-backs but it's difficult to think of a person more deserving of such rewards, just don't forget about us when you're permanently giddy on Don P.

I mean... that's where my own thought process is.
That and the contrast between getting off a first class flight, catching the tube, and then boarding a bus in Finsbury Park... definitely two worlds there, and sure I just got a glimpse of the extreme end of how the rich live but this isn't something that is really in my immediate future, I'm just a tourist passing through.

In my old life I've spent more on a bottle of wine at lunch than my rent used to be. So, I understand the feeling (never flown anywhere for work though).
I view it as a novelty and then go back to scrounging my two least worn brake pads together for a ride...

I know someone who has one of those mad wine cellars. Not very well, tbh, they were in our NCT group when we had our first kid. Lovely couple, very hospitable and extremely golf-club.

It's very pretty, but kinda stupid.
Imagine what it takes to fill that thing or retrieve a few bottles from it. A tight spiral staircase and carrying boxes/cases of wine, you need two hands to carry it and one for the staircase... makes very little sense at all.
Better to just have a standard square room cellar, but then how do you show off without your sunken spiral cellar? The pool out back isn't sufficient, everyone has one of those... but a spiral cellar, clearly needed.

Ah, so you were reporting to the board. True golf club ambition requires being a member of the board.

Bit fish in a barrel though, isn't it? I never trawl the watch or car threads for pretty much the same reason. Far more fun* if I can read someone's comments in a Swiss-Tony-esque voice:
You were already [a] member and were respectful about asking about promotion
a human did this manually
Now I remember this, this is also why I cannot take you up on the offer

If you don’t post it on Tiktok or make a Twitter thread out of it for clout does it even count?

In the past month I've had 3 business class flights, and 1 first class... all on air miles. I've stayed in 2 x 5 star resorts, enjoyed a board meeting, an SLT offsite, gone to Palo Alto, Napa Valley, driven a few supercars.
