I just bought another cable, labelled 3.1 or whatever and it barely mounted the drive. I gave up and threw it back on my normal USB-C cable where it works but only does 40mb/s.

That's nice but I ain't got time for command line bullshit.

I'm going to test this on my laptop to see if it's the drive or the PC and then I'll just send it back and get an internal SATA instead. Fucking knew I shouldn't be clever with external drives.

Laptop's doing 540MB/s. Fucksake.

Network share work around PC->Laptop->USB?

I wanted to work on this thing (edit video and audio) so doing wonky shit like this ain't cool.
I'm going to see what I can do about fixing this PCs USB but probably just send the drive back and buy internal.

There's something called UsbTreeView that might ID issues. Dunno. Not my forte.

There are various GUI apps like Teracopy that do much the same thing. Windows Explorer is not the right tool for the job.

The issue isn't Explorer (as evidenced by laptop being banging), it's that this PC isn't talking to the drive correctly. Here's USBTreeView output for the drive:

I installed that and then swapped back to the included cable and we were in business.

Anyone interested in an egpu enclosure? I’ve got a Razor Core X which I haven’t used in 4 or so years. Got a GTX1060 I can include with it for cheapz.

Anybody still hanging on to their old Microsoft Trackball Optical? Mine has been dropped on the floor one too many times and is now mechanically fucked (left button snapped), but electronically it's still fine. If somebody wants it for spares, it's yours for the cost of postage, otherwise it's going in the WEEE box with the huge pile of my late fathers electronic estate and I'm switching to the same Logitech as he used.

Cheers, I sent them a low offer of 1500, will see if they bite. I don't think they're planning on a direct replacement for me so it'll be surplus to requirements, but then again I'll just be using it for extra-curricular work and the odd but if WFHing so can't justify much more.

I don't think that counts as a low offer, if they're going to let it go in that way they'll bite your hand off. Depends on their policy, I do a lot of IT returns from people WFH and the companies are paying more for transport than the kit is worth because they have to sanitise it for security, data protection and commercial confidentiality purposes, and keep control of the disposal path for CSR reasons. Obviously if it's already in their office and you're offering to take it away it simplifies the logistics, but you're still possibly asking them to divert from policy.
