This is the aim of the game. God, I miss riding around Vietnam./Thailand.
Partner isn't bad...she's just very...stiff and nervous. -

I'm moving over end of the year, means new bike time when there. Ideally pass local test, proper insurance card and bike in my own or a mates name, i. E as legit as poss as Vietnam police are really cracking down on illegal riding especially rural areas it's easy for them to stop just about everyone.
Honda adv 160 is likely thr ticket was going to get a pcx but they haven't importer them either since 2018 approx. So might as well go for a pcx with extra suspension and toys.
Anything bigger than 160cc (the new cap since 2018) attracts big tax duties and more attention as they stand out due to size.Plan to settle for a few months and get paperwork in order as can then travel the peninsula without much bother over the winter. Hammock, minimal crap and take camera gear and just cruise about basically. Thai coast is most expensive area, so staying awya from that you can go a long way on not a lot.
Modern injection hondas get around 2.5L/100km easily, use less if cruising (no one in Vietnam really goes more than about 70kmh even when road is empty) and cost about 65-70p a litre just now (falling). Bigger bikes use more fuel, suck in busy cities, can't use them on thr open road anyway, massive import duties (a £22k ots harley will cost more like £70-85k to get on the road!!!) and stand out so it's a field day for police. -

Kerry reached, last hours riding was a bit hard; dark, raining and increasingly bad road surfaces culminating in our road which is really bad in a bike and our drive of mud and wet grass which was fun

Is the Cc limit why the 110cc engines are popular?
Do they still make the lambretta clones in Vietnam?

Excellent job!
@BrickMan
That sounds awesome. Probably not what you want but they make /made a little Kawasaki 150cc two stroke Z bike in that part of the world that they have tuned to the moon in various applications. I think they're dead cool - amazing little engines.https://www.bikebound.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Kawasaki-Ninja-150-Tracker-2.jpg

Maybe import some to the UK. Cheap sillyness.

Dayum. I’d ride that.

I bet they're little rippers. A mate had one of these (SDR200) back in the day and it was the absolute tits for b-road mayhem. Hilarious. Little screaming two stroke motors are so much fun, even if you're used to far faster stuff.

Oh shit, for real? That's it, out for good?
I can't remember what I rented last time I was out there, but it was a CVT 150CC thing and it was a riot. Hill climbing was 'cackle in your helmet' situation throughout. -

Renting a scooter with a broken speedo on a Thai island was what got me into motorbikes. Riding pillion in Ho Chi Min traffic at night was what nearly put me off!

Hcm is tame compared to Hanoi!
But yeah offski for a bit, year at least, will see what happens, need to get some more adventures in the go as really expensive now to do much in Europe unless you are rolling in it.
Mad 2als fun, I've defo heard some aggressive 2s but not seen any close up, speed limits aren't really a thing, but traffic police do carry tasers there and been seen to use them on moving targets!

Been few days without a reply, so I am guessing the CBR is destined to stay with me... or else everyone is just too busy to reply either way.

Looking glorious! I can't seem to find an hour between downpours and work to even pop out for a coffee on the bike so you're doing very well!

Not entirely sure what the big fuss is here, and please correct me if I’m mistaken, but most of the changes are to a tiny area of the Shoreditch area (zone B). The changes also reflect what most of the other London boroughs charge relative to location and zoning.
I’m all for the proposed idea that bikes are fundamentally better than 2/3 ton vehicles, but some of their quoted stuff is false no? They say commuters can’t park anywhere else, but on the Hackney site they link it says you can park anywhere outside of Zone B for free.

I should have read harder, they make it sound Borough wide
-
• #23699
I’ve read it again, and I’m still somewhat confused.
Going through the charges, they are incredibly high, but not outside of standard pricing for other boroughs. It also encompasses all vehicles. They make a comparison to Westminster, which is a £1 a day, but only in motorcycle bays, and I had to park far from work cos by 7am, it’s all taken.
I guess this is the same? Guess Hackney is just trying to clear out the packed clusterfuck around shoreditch? -

clusterfuck around shoreditch
You mean… Shoreditch
Ha - there's definitely a lively traffic scene over there. My Mrs has always been OK, aside from the occasional vicious pinch. The worse pillion I ever took, was my old man. He was so awful and obnoxious, I nearly dropped him off altogether. We each swore that we'd never do it again.
