  • Yes, I remember that now having read that article.

There were comments in option pieces at the time that he was getting Johnson on the record, and given his previous job it was possible that he was setting him (Johnson) up for a fall as he likely wouldn't have done so without information that he already knew Johnson was lying.

  • Starmer has been a bit clever saying he wouldn't have an honours list as PM IMO

  • Thought his speech yesterday on the energy and industrial strategy was good

  • Starmer doesn't have the power to kick someone out of the party, hence Corbyn still being a member but not a Labour MP.
Would it not be the wider party headed by the NEC that makes membership decisions.
Starmer would only control the PLP?

This seems to be a grudge.

    Or am I completely off?

  • The settling of scores in political parties is part and parcel of their function. Internecine warfare is a primary motivation for a lot of people who join political parties.

Labour's problem is that when they do it, it gets reported in the Tory press. Usually when the Tories do it, no-one notices.

  • Far from inspiring on kuenssberg this morning, the vision seems to of gone from radical change to incremental less bad

  • Not entirely sure what people want labour to say at the moment, the country is a fucking mess there's no miracle solution for the damage the tories have done to the country.

What promises can you make when borrowing for anything is 10x more than it was 10 years ago and there's fuck all business investment as well.

We're fucked and making big promises you can't keep will just leave the door open for those snivelling tory cunts to take advantage of when they fail.

Better to try and over deliver once in, I know it's not inspiring but I wouldn't want to be taking over this shit show.

  • Taking over the shitshow is really bad and the timing and mess they inherit unfortunate but offering worse public pay settlements than the tories, proposing austerity light and talking down the green agenda aren't very inspiring, might as well stick with the status quo

  • might as well stick with the status quo
    Really??

  • Lol, I wouldn't vote tory but can see why swing voters might feel like that if Sunak doesn't make any big blunders. Current Labour has me more inclined to vote green but part of that is the privilege of living in a fairly safe labour seat

  • Where has he offered worse public pay settlements than the tories, unless you've seen something I haven't he said he wouldn't be drawn into giving a figure.

What if he offers 12% pay rises and then by the time of the next election the economy is tanked even more interest rates are at 7%. It's a nonsense to suggest a party that isn't even part of the negotiations and have no budgetary control should be offering pay deals on TV.

And if you think we might as well stick with the status quo then I'm sorry but you're a fucking moron.

  • Where has he offered worse public pay settlements than the tories, unless you've seen something I haven't he said he wouldn't be drawn into giving a figure.

Said they would reject the public pay review body recommendation of 6.5%, which the government have now offered

    I'm sorry but you're a fucking moron.

    Nice

  • Said they would reject the public pay review body recommendation of 6.5%, which the government have now offered

Did he though, or did he just give a typical politcal non committal answer either way?

  • Yes they said the recommendation would't be compliant with thier fiscal rules so wouldn't commit to following the independent bodies advice, we are back to living within our means and fixing the leaking roof

What is the point of having independent pay review bodies if you won't commit to respecting thier recommendations

  • I can't find where he's said that (if he said it with Kuntssberg I missed it) but I would agree it's shit if he has.

  • He didn't say it today, they said it a couple of weeks ago

  • I also live in a safe labour seat, but to say we “might as well stick with the status quo” leaves me bewildered, I cannot see how that helps anyone🤷

  • If you are swing voter who previously voted Conservative, what is Labour offering over Sunak's current cabinet? I am aware they will offer more hopefully nearer an election but currently they are saying its better to offer no hope, than false hope

  • Ok I’m convinced I need to vote conservative. I assume that’s your point as you’ve not addressed the point in true political style. Yay greentricky and the Tory status quo!!
    I’m out.

  • What was the point I was supposed to be addressing? Where did I say you should vote anything? I stated I am more likely to vote green.

  • Your assertation that we should stay with the status quo which is what I’ve questioned

  • Tbh 'more of the same' is a very hard thing to vote for right now.

The fptp system doesn't help with this.
