I carry a very tall 4 year old on my Mini Max on a Mac Ride top tube seat, but he also used to spend a lot of time in a big euro crate on the front.

I also have the Omnium backrest, which my 2 year old uses and 4 year old occasionally. The backrest is good but for a big kid the Mac Ride is more comfortable and fun for them on longer trips, particularly on a Mini Max (versus Cargo) where the headset protrudes halfway along the rack so you have to be careful with where you put it.

Depends on bike fit as to whether your knees would knock them though, I’m tall and don’t really notice him there.

I am more interested in seeing what happens with, for example, Bosch motor equipped bikes in a few years.

What do you mean?

Spares, replacement.
I know people fix them, but does it get expensive, will it be possible to fit newer generations.
But I am not really informed, more a general thought when parts are specific.

Thanks for the info. I defo want to carry on the rack not the top tube. How far back could you mount the backrest of its facing forwards?

I'm wondering if I could make a kayak seat work as a cheaper alternative.

Or a folding chair.

What was the forum approved plastic crate seller? Been mentioned a few times on here.

Here’s showing where the headset is. You could also put a cushion on it and face it forwards, just hard to find a good position on a Mini Max that isn’t backwards without a cushion.

If you mount it facing forward the main thing you want to be aware of is will the handlebars hit it (or rather your child’s head when they’re sat in it)

Can you take the feet off the Macride so he can put his on the rack? My nearly 4yo has outgrown his Bulldog seat now (width-wise), but he used the rack as foot rest, it worked really well.

I asked this in the wheel building thread, but I'm gonna ask here as well. If not allowed please excuse me.

I'm planning an Omnium Cargo build, and looking at hubs for the wheel build. I'm not going to use this bike for commercial heavy duty hauling, but rather carrying my kid (and maybe even a second kid at some point) + his bike + camping stuff around.

Dimensions are 15x100 and 12x142. I'm looking at

Shimano MT400
Shimano SLX

Sitting at the Alivio level the MT400 are obviously way cheaper than SLX, but they have steel axles where the SLX have aluminium axles. Is this something that matters in a build like this that will carry heavier loads than the average mtb?

I'm totally ignorant to this kind of bike so this is a genuine question! What does this do that makes someone want to spend that sort of money on it? Is it just strong enough to carry kids and relatively easy to ride in a shape that makes it easy to store?

If not for carrying kids on the back, check out the Orbea Katu. Bosch system and they go fairly cheaply on eBay. We picked one up for £1k with 100 miles on.

Speaking to my friend, his missus wants an electric bike, needs to be storable, easy enough to swap between him
And his partner and capacity to carry kid and shopping.

Would a muli or a yoonit be too big?

I am in a similar situation. School and nursery run is much faster with a bike vs public transport and we don't want to buy a car. Partner or I (different heights) need to ferry two kids about 5km. Electric would be preferred. Has to be storable within an Islington bike hangar, which means shorter than 2m.

Remidemi looks too short for two kids on the back unfortunately.
