  • Patch the tube instead of replacing it?

How do you get the tube out of the rear wheel of a Brompton with mudguards and a rack without removing the wheel?

  • You don't have to fully remove a tube if you want to just patch it. Bit fiddly, but can be done.

  • Chain tensioner doesn’t spring at you if you remove the chain - and therefore spring tension - first.

Mine is singlespeed so I don’t have to deal with the gear cable but if I did I’d probably fit a quick release thing like I used to have on a Sachs/sram 3 speed hub.

Here’s one that says it’s for Brompton https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264600837877?

Should be possible to integrate that into other hub gear systems as it goes with a standard threaded control rod/chain end.

I can never get the chain off the tensioner without unbolting it. It has a silver disc on it that makes it more difficult.

  • Half fold the rear and pop it off. It’s really not difficult.

  • Half fold the rear and pop it off

Must admit I hadn’t tried that

  • I’ll make a video, I think a huge part is not knowing a few handy tricks!

  • Anyone find the brompton saddles really uncomfortable. Used the original one for a week and straight away my ass hurts .
    Gonna put another saddle on.

  • Customer took this to a premier dealer and they replaced this main pivot pin with the same size and didn’t ream it… just shows you can’t trust anyone. Also told him they couldn’t get the bearings for a 2 speed wheel… ffs.

Anyway. Now all sorted with a fresh seat sleeve, SS conversion and a good once over. Bloody love the campag carbons on this, why not!

  • I need a few things to complete my build if anyone has any used bits lying around they want to sell

    • Telescopic Seatpost (silver)
    • Brake Levers and Calipers (new version in silver)
    • M Bar (silver)

Might be misremembering but didn’t that use to be their official guidance, that if it was seized and there wasn’t any play it wasn’t necessary to ream the hinge?

  • What jockey wheels are those? The standard plastic dirt traps are my least favourite thing about Bromptons. Is it a single speed thing?

  • I have the telescopic seatpost - have sent you a pm.

  • I'd be interested in that. I've still not got round to fixing my rear puncture (particularly annoying as I managed to fit a rear rack without taking the rear wheel off as I couldn't be bothered messing around with it).

  • that's a rad build! Thomson upper seatpost... is that the stock lower seatpost or other?

  • Ha. No there was play, and the dealer tried to explain why they didn’t team it to the next size… customer told them to bog off.

  • Indeed these is a 1/3 speed tensioner, so no dirt traps! Fill them with glue ;)

  • Yes, standard telescopic lower

  • Yo - M Bar silver over here if you want it DM.

  • Not that I'm aware of but fairly new to the Brompton arena.

@Dammit thanks for the feedback 👍🏻

@HoKe Okay, making me think I should stick with my C Line Explore. I've only just got it, then a friend said they could probably get me discount on a new P-Line and in the short time I've had the C-Line, it is a bit of weight to lug around but then I'd still be spending a fair bit more to get the P-Line with less gearing range.

  • I have a customers p line for sale that’s done legit 400meters..

  • Intrigued but also concerned why they didn't keep it, unless they went titanium or electric??

  • Likes the weight, wants more gear range, was going to convert to 6 speed but he found a s6LX for £1200 that we will just add a few bits to and it’ll work out cheaper

  • Anyone with a P-Line, do you find the gear range good enough for commuting?

Good question for the London Fixed Gear and Single Speed forum!

  • I use 54t chainring on my p line, gear ratio is ok. Wanna buy another and single speed it though
