  • @Tenderloin @andyfallsoff the aperture is ~1800x2000.

    I’d love a pivot window… where do I start?

  • Either normal two pane slide fold outward opening - or you could look at tilt turn french door set (rationale do this) - which would give you the ability to ventilate without opening everything up.

You do see those asymmetric pivot doors on projects but sounds like a really bad idea to me if you are planning benches either side - the pane will swing across surfaces you (or things) are sitting on. Recipe for squashed kids

  • Pivot door.

  • How does that seal at the bottom? Probably a seal that drops. I mean, those are lovely but in a no one needs that way.
If that was my bench on both sides window I would have it fixed, save the money, and buy something else.

  • Yeah a brush seal of some kind - you use them with regular zero thresholds

  • Is this also the place to rant as an architect?
God my general contractor is thick as a thick thing.
They can't be trusted to make even the easiest decision because they lack the apparent ability and willingness to think.
    I can't grasp it...

  • I think we’re just gonna go for hinged, outward-opening French door style windows. Pivot seems like too much of a functional compromise to achieve a single pane. Thanks for the tips!

  • This is ours - it’s deffo not as big as yours but I think you can go bigger with Rationel. The sliding function is super solid and we have a plan to maybe have a bench on the outside of ours at some point

  • Apropos of window chat, can someone just buy this so I can visit and pretend I live there?

Although, stop the press, I've just spotted current owners planning to put TV above fireplace... Thank god they're selling

  • Sounds like you've spent some years working at Curry's.

  • Ahhh yes we have a similar mech in our office window although far less fancy windows... 86x96, OW70 windows from Associated Glass, pretty sure you can go a bit bigger too.

  • What's wrong with a TV above the fireplace?

    Asking for a friend :)

  • Oooo. We have ours above the fireplace! I hate having TVs wedged into too small alcoves at an angle.

  • How do you not suffer permanent neck ache?

  • Which is why we buy one with legs…

  • I expect they’re selling as they ran out of money. I lived in a little hamlet near south Brent in the 70s and went to primary school near there. Not the most exciting place in the world!

  • I live a few miles away now but theirs has a lot more potential than mine. Obsessed with the big windows. Though at least we're closer to the beach than they are.

  • I had a TV above the fireplace in my old place and never noticed any issues, also ideal for setting surround sound up with it being in the centre of the wall. Admittedly I also had reclining sofas so that probably helped.

Then I got a girlfriend and all those things gradually went ...

  • ideal for setting surround sound

Isn't film sound mixed for speakers behind the screen rather than either side?

  • Any recommendations for a person/company with who can collect a used kitchen in SW7 and transport to Cornwall PL27?

  • post on AnyVan

  • Possibly (I have no idea if it is tweaked for home release) but it is still much better than attempting a surround sound setup when the tv is in the corner of the room and you're sitting offset to it.

  • Now we don’t have so many walls and floors on one level - the robots are taking over
