  • Nice. I saw that. If it has been a size down I’d have been tempted!

Too many gravel bikes these days are 2.5kg frames with oversize headtubes, thru axles and mounts for every damn thing. These earlier disc ‘road’ bikes are much nicer to me

  • Thanks - been looking for a big clearance f and f for a while and one that has a reasonably short TT and good size headtube.
I've never built up a bike using discs before - can i just use what ever groupset (usually campag) and then just buy discs, wheels and the disc calipers?
Will these work with standard brake shifters - for example campag 11 speed?
    Newb question!

  • I had my eye on this and opposite to @D_Mars, if it was one size up I would have copped!

  • +1 on was looking at it, but I have an unfinished frame like that already. Makes a lot of sense and looks great.

  • You will need to make sure the disc brakes you buy will fit the (post-mount) mounts on the frame.

Most Road groupsets will come with flat mount calipers.

  • SRAM apex1 any good?

  • I would use bar end shifters and nice 9 speed XTR rear mech over apex 1!

  • Paired with S500 brake levers. 👌

  • The only way.

  • Just picked this up and paid a bit of cash for Deore xt rd, ultegra shifters and fd, sram cranks, avid bb7? Calipers, big cassette..
Just need some wheels now ( and rotors and cables)

  • Does ultegra shifter work with xt rear mech? I know 10 speed road and 8/9 speed mtb worked but not too sure on newer stuff.

  • What speed(s)? Generally not, but there are ways to make it work.

Jtek for many things, or Wolftooth Tanpan for 10/11 speed Shimano road shifters to MTB rear mechs .

  • Don’t know, I was referencing op saying what he picked up.

  • Ah yeah, gotcha. Hopefully bar-ends !

  • I got them off the guy who sold me the frame- think it is all 10 speed so older stuff he had working on the frame.

  • Ahh yeah, 10 speed shimano and 9 speed rear shimano RDS work lovely.

  • One of the best rear mechs IMO. The 771 works better than the 772 due to lower tension.

  • This build has got no further and is still in frameset form!
I need some nice 700c QR Disc wheels - does anyone have any for sale?
    Mavic? etc etc
Pink chris king pretty and strong hubs?!

  • Have you had a look at the wiggle sale? They don't have anything as posh as Chris King but there are some bargains to be had.

  • Very happy with my half price Prime's. 10 Second tool free job to convert them to QR.

  • Which ones did you go for? I got carried away and ordered a set of the Attaqeur. The listed weight is dubiously low, perfect for a steel frame with a frame bag and a rider who could do with laying off the crisps.

Edit: to be clear, I'm referring to myself, not Mr Nettles who I'm sure has much better self control when it comes to salt and vinegar McCoys.

  • Samesies. Good point about weight, maybe not ideal for the Salsa then.

  • They don't seem to have silly low spoke count or anything. 1370g for an alloy wheelset is pretty low though right?
